Anyone run a wallpaper site?

Do any of you make any money at all from wallpaper sites? It seems like it would be difficult to monetize with Adsense (not enough text to get good contextual ads), but easy to drive traffic to.

If you've got a site that makes money, do you use a prepackaged script, or do you roll your own?

I don't have a dedicated site to wallpapers but have a sub directory. I have done no backlinking for this, yet getting a lot of the traffic. If you have good on page seo (alt tag), you will automatically get links from scrappers.

It requires a lot of bandwith. You had better focus on web search.

Since February 2011 it has produced $102.4. CTR is 0.77%

A few things for wallpaper site, make sure you have social buttons for each individual pictures (easier for them to share and go viral very fast - drive more referral traffic) and 1 most important thing is that you have to make sure all your images have alt="" (since your site don't have much text, ALT plays a very important role now)

    Wish you all the best!

My reason for asking this, is that I have a small one operating now, with Adsense monetization.

I'm getting a whopping $0.32 RPM, and $0.09 CPC. Maybe it's the niche.

On the bright side, it *has* been fairly easy to rank for. With that in mind, I was hoping to write or buy a script that would allow user submission, obtain a base stock of images for a niche, launch a site and walk away.

My existing site is getting about 100 uniques / day, and has a potential of about 4,000 uniques / day if I really pushed the SEO.

Still, at 7 pageviews on average, that's $8.96 / day, and would take me probably 2-3 months of SEO and photo editing work to get there.

I'm just considering it. Perhaps another niche would have a better CPC - though I doubt there is much traffic for "personal injury lawyer wallpapers"
