What does it mean when someone says that they will submit your site to bookmarking sites with PR4 to PR8? Does it mean "Public Relations"?

I only learnt the answer to this yesterday myself It means a Google Page Rank of 4 or 8. When you do a google search, what page of the searches does your site appear on. PR1 is the best of course

It can mean they're a little confused, or more likely that they're selling something and hoping their customers will be a little confused. Websites don't "have page rank". Pages have page rank.

Most backlinks that are sold are advertised as "backlinks on a PR-6 site" or something like that. This is close to meaningless, because a backlink on a PR-0 page of a site whose home page happens to be "PR-6" - which is what they mean - is worth no more than a backlink from an article directory (i.e. virtually nothing at all).

To the extent that page ranks matter at all (and these days that's very little, compared with relevance and quality, which are what really determine the value of backlinks), what you need to know is the rank of the page on which your backlink appears, not the page rank of the site (that just means the page rank of its home page). So there's a lot of deception going on, and a lot of misleading nonsense talked about this subject. By people whose financial interests are involved, of course.

Other way round, Di ... "PR-1" is close to the bottom, just above "PR-0". PR-9/10 is the "top".

Nobody was born knowing any of this stuff! And in many cases, there's an industry of people making a living out of it by exploiting the fact that many "beginning marketers" aren't quite au fait with it all.

Page rank seems to be of less and less importance with every change made to Google's algorithms, both the big, publicly announced/debated ones and the other, smaller, continually ongoing ones.

One can see this for onself from - among other things - the regularity with which lower-PR pages (often with fewer backlinks) outrank higher-PR pages (often with more backlinks) in Google's SERP's. SEO these days is increasingly about quality and relevance. Numbers of backlinks alone, and especially page ranks, are actually pretty unimportant. And gradually getting less important, too. Google says that's intentional, and will continue. Meanwhile, a lot of backlink sellers (some of whom call themselves "SEO consultants", these days - you can imagine) don't like this being pointed out, for obvious reasons.

I'm among many Warriors here who keep saying that we'd be delighted if Google just abolished page rank altogether rather than continually devaluing its significance further and further all the time. (Don't think that will happen, though!).

          Woah Diana no, no, no!

No one starts knowing everything. I know, I've learned a lot from my mistakes.

PR1 is the lowest. PR 10 is the highest.

Page rank is a number that reflects the relative importance of a page to other pages online. You get the number from a complicated algorithm that Google has come up with and, of course, which they have not revealed.

A common misconception is that a higher PR page will always rank higher than lower PR ones, but that is not aways the case.

Another misconception is that an entire website will have the same page rank. Many article directories have a home page wirth a decent PR of 4-6, but the pages with articles on often have a PR 1 or less.

This may also be the case for bookmarking sites, so Susan if you want to check the sites you refer to you can check their home page and pages like the ones your bookmark would appear on using Google PageRank Checker - Check Google page rank instantly

If the pages with bookmarks have a PR of 4 - 8 that's good. If it's PR 1 or lower it's not much to boast about and the info you've been given is misleading.

Why are there people getting those kind of services? Is it due to the complexity of the task or what? I'm seeing gigs for this one and I'd like to join the bandwagon.

Everyone has to learn sometime. I'm sure there was a time when you didn't know what Google Page Rank was either.

All I know about Page Rank is that it is the ranking of the Google results. But I did not know that there's PR1-PR10 jargon. Just like Di have said, I also thought that PR1 is the highest and that there's PR10000000 and so on.

Ok, so I signed up to some like reddit and digg just to check. The interface is so simple that all I need to do is provide the link, a brief description and submit. I just can't get the reason why are buyers buying those bookmarking gigs on Fiverr. Am I missing something?

    See Fiverr's bookmarking gigs:
    hxxp://fiverr.com/gigs/search?query=bookmark&x=0&y=0

Why are there people offering manual submission? Does it provide more value than an autobot? Is it more effective to blast the page to 25 bookmarking sites compared to submitting it to 1 bookmarking site with 25 rebookmarked entries from other people?

Sorry if I asked too much.
