Well it could be, it really depends on what you are bookmarking. If the content you are bookmarking is considered a quality stuff and gets bookmarked by too many people you have a very good chance of being featured on the main page of Delicious which can bring you enormous number of links and traffic.

You can use Onlywire to submit to numerous Social bookmarking sites at a press of a button.These sites do provide good links but I doubt if they send niche traffic.

You might have the best product in the world, but if you can't generate the traffic you've just got a nice website on your hands with no customers. If you do SBM with quality sites this may increase in traffic to your site.The other thing is some of the search engines treat them as back links to your website, this results in the improving position of your website.
