Permanent Redirect Question

Hey folks,

If I start a website using a crappy domain name because all the good ones are taken.

ie. internet-marketing-services.com

And build it up so that it ranks well and starts doing some decent business.

Then down the track when I have some money, I splash $10,000 on;

internetmarketingservices.com

And do a permanent redirect from the old site...

Will the new domain take over all the backlinks and PR from the original site?

Or would I have to start again from scratch?

Thanks

    The new domain will take over all the links and PR from the old site. This is the main function of the 301 permanent redirect. You should try to make sure you have good anchor in your backlinks. If you redirect alot of links that have the anchor "internet-marketing-services.com" then they will be of less value to the new site.
