google kw tool is designed for advertisers however in order for them to get advertisers they publish monthly search numbers for the kws entered, and those are extremely valuable to us webmasters so almost all of us use that tool and all the tools we buy also use that tool to mine data

I also use market samurai mostly to analyze the top 10 on google
you can do this for "free" but it will take you 20 times longer

Google adwords is the best tool and if you do not want to do keyword research then pick the keywords from your competitor sites.

Google keyword tool is the best free tool that you will find on the web for keyword research. Other good tools (not free) are : Scrape Box and Samurai Market.

As a publisher you need to keep an eye on the Contextual Targeting Tool which will give you approximate EPCs for keyword groups: What's the Contextual Targeting Tool? - AdWords Help
Use this for potential earnings/keyword groupings and the Adwords Traffic Estimator for search traffic volumes and you should have a lot of actionable data.

google keyword tool is not just for advertisers and is useful, to a certain extent though... while it's good to get some keyword insights out of it, the tool is definitely insufficient for more advanced keyword research

it is best to get keyword research tools that bundle in various third party tools and kw research methods. there is one rank tracker that does kw research with google adwords tool, sem rush, keyword discovery, wordtracker - all nice services to find your niche and you use them with one tool + check kw rankings and keyword traffic with it later on

Adwords tool is good but
how to analyze google top 10>?

SEO Quake tells you the number of backlinks , the PR and domain age etc
but
it cannot analyze the backlinks PR and anchor text
It cannot analyze the onpage SEO (kw in title, head, desc, and url)
at a glance for the top 10 google sites

thats primarily what I use Market Samurai for, top 10 on Google analyzing

searching kws? I use Adwords google tool since its much faster than Market Samurai

Seo SPyglass is still the best for that and yes Seoquake can give you the PR just click on the links section and it takes you to Yahoo explorer and gives you the PR on the links also. One of the aspects of competitive research is to see the actual links that your competitors are getting. Depending just on some numbers that a tool gives you isn't good analysis.

so tell me how you are going to analyze the top 10 on google for free with SEOquake?
you say kw in title etc is staring at you sure but its not laid out in a chart like Traffic TRavis or Market Samurai

Who can work with a mess like that looking at all those websites you would need to get a notepad and keep notes

How you gonna analyze PR of backlinks? or anchor text of backlinks with SEOquake? you cant
its a very weak imitation of a paid tool and very disorganized trying to do it that way

all these guys who just use free tools more power to them I guess but
it would drive me nuts once you have a nice paid tool you cant go back

I found semrush/ very useful for organic keyword research, because it much more effective in suggestions than GKT, and helps me when I need some long-tails.

use the tool and click "broad" and that will give you related terms

then click "exact" and that will tell you the exact number of searches for each term it pulls up (puts the terms in brackets for exact)

I do think whatever advertiser and publisher.google adwords is still the best tool to use.for me, i also use semrush to track the site's top 10 keywords for ranking .It reallys work so well.

while google adwords tool using the same database, is lightening fast

1. strength of the backlinks, analyzing the PR, and anchor text of the existing backlinks

2, it cannot show the onpage SEO of the top 10, (kw in url, title, header, description)
Without that information its almost impossible to analyze your competition.

Thats basically what I use Market Samurai for, the top 10 google analysis of the competition (at one glance)
this only takes about 30 secs with Market Samarai

If you search kws with Market Samurai? Its VERY slow, just do that with the adwords tool directly

I see this as the best of both worlds

No free tool can do the top 10 Google analysis, IMO in a timely manner,
there is no free tool out there including SEO quake that is capable of this

and
Time is Money

I analyze 100s of kws per day using market samurai for the top 10 google competition

with it? this would be impossible.
The top 10 analysis I can do in 30 secs with Market Samurai , would take IMO 20 minutes to do for free by hand, and thats conservative

Market Samurai uses SEO Majestic for backlink data (as does Traffic Travis)

No free tool can do the top 10 Google analysis, IMO in a timely manner,

Definitely no free tool, but with SECockpit, I can do a full top 10 competition analysis of hundreds or even thousands of keywords in just a few minutes.

Naturally, this type of power isn't free (or even cheap), but as you say "Time is Money".

They use the same Data base but
The google kw tool is 100 times faster than Market samurai for searching kws

MS is extremely slow for this

For analyzing Top 10 Google competition Market Samurai is very fast though

No doubt Google Ad words is the best. It is fast as compared to other tools and also provide complete information about the relevant keywords and Market competition along with the global and locally searches.
