Hosting Different IP To Protect Your Adsense

I think the number "10" is an arbitury number which people just give as a bit of a guideline to state that it's not best to put all your eggs in one basket (or ip in this case).

Spreading your domains across different ips is certainly a good idea if you think any SEO tactic you are employing might raise a flag with Google. However, it's important to realise that Google has many more ways of linking the domain ownership across other sources than ip addresses. A couple of examples would be if you use Google services such as Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, and even Adsense accounts which share the same Google ids.
OK, there may be situations where agencies use shared accounts and one site might be acting in an unscrupulous manner whereby punishment won't be applied across all accounts and a manual review might be undertaken to see if all accounts are breaking rules if one of them flags.
Whois details are another way for Google to see if domain names are related too.

To be honest, between the examples I listed above, and no doubt, dozens of other footprints such as specific user behaviour (visits to multiple sites from the same ip), it is fairly difficult to imagine that Google won't be able to link sites to a specific owner if it so wanted to check something out.

To answer your other question, most hosting/domain companies do offer unique ip addresses as a service (paid in most cases) and you would need to ask your provider directly to find out.

It's pointless to host them on separate IP if they all use the same AdSense ID.

The AdSense ID itself is a footprint.

I've been trying to figure this one out myself. There are people out there making a big deal about dumping Analytics and Webmaster tools along with putting your sites on different IP's.

But what good is all of this if your sites are linked together by AdSense?

Simply put, as long as your not using scrupulous tactics to garnish links then you have nothing to worry about. The only hassle you'd have is keeping up with any changes to Google Adsense TOS and ensuring your site/s stay within it's rules.

There are great reasons to host on multiple C Class IPs such as networking your sites and allowing you to use your best backlinks for each of your sites without devaluation, but I have never heard of anything related to Adsense being benefited from this type of hosting.

It isn't so much about benefiting from AdSense, Melissa. It has more to do with what happens if Google doesn't like something with one of your sites that has AdSense. Many have reported that if they do a human review and don't like a site they may look for your other sites and deindex them as well.

It has more to do with protecting your sites from Google's temper.
