Link popularity, in general sense, tells how much popular your link or website in the internet world. Going by the definition it is the number of inbound links to your site. More inbound links or the backlinks you get more is the link popularity.

Link popularity is the counting of number of links to your site and from your site on the World Wide Web. There are two types of counting. The first one is internal and second one is external counting. Mostly search engines give exposure to your site according to your link popularity.

Link popularity is one of the algorithm Google uses to rank websites. It is nothing but the number of links that leads to a specific page and the anchor text of the link which shows the relevancy of the website.

It is actually the total number of webpages that links to your website or a web page, and helps search engines in determining the listing position in SERP.

In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology it is the term used to describe the value of a Web site, where the measurement is based on the quantity of quality Inbound links (also called backlinks) to your pages. Many search engines, including Google use link popularity in its algorithm when determining where your Web site is listed in its SERP.

The theory goes something like this: The search engine Powers That Be have decided that if other sites are linking to your site, it must be a winner; therefore, it deserves a boost in rankings (when all else is equal). If you think about it, this makes a lot of sense. People link to good sites, not bad ones.

Link popularity is a term that refers to how many other links point towards a particular website. The term link popularity also has two different forms, Internal and External, which refer to the links coming from the websites own web pages and from other websites. Internal link popularity means the number of links to the website from web pages that belong to the particular website. External link popularity is the number of links from outside sources that lead back to the particular website. In the end, websites with high link popularity have what is called link cardinality or link superiority and have a reputation for being informative, as well as ranking highly on search engines. Link popularity is also an approach that many search engines take when deciding where to rank websites.
