outranking a forum thread

Is it easy to outrank a forum thread?

There is a forum thread that is ranked #1 for a keyword that i'd like to target. Will this be simple to do if I create a blog with domain name as the keyword im targeting, good on page SEO, about 4-5 posts, and a handful of backlinks?

What do you think, is a forum thread/post's easy to outrank?

    Obviously this will depend on the authority and age of the post. Many posts on WF and DPF would be tough to outrank as google sees not only the post but the entire forum as authority sites.

    Can you give us a little more information about the niche or keyword?

      Thanks for the response.

      The keyword is only getting about 200 monthly searches, but I am targeting very low competition niches for adsense. It's something new I'm trying out in hopes to get at least 1 dollar a day from one blog.

      The forum that is ranked number #1 for this specific keyword is about 10 years old and has a PR of 6. The thread that is ranked #1 is about 2 years old. Of course there is no on page SEO for this keyword because it is in a forum. Maybe this is too steep of competition.

      The website that is ranked #2 for this keyword has a PR of 2, and appears to be about 3 years old. There is no on page SEO either. It has "relevant" keywords but not the exact keyword. It is also a blogspot blog without it's own hosting.

      I will have my own hosting and domain on a wordpress blog.

      Is this keyword even worth trying to rank for considering the authority of the forum?

    While I know this doesn't directly answer your question, not everyone can rank number 1 for their chosen keywords. It's impossible. So focus on getting as high as you can and if you're not already a member of that forum, join and become a prolific, valuable member there and you'll be able to add backlinks to your site and that should help strengthen your ranking.

    Yes! That is a good sign when you are looking to target low competition keyword phrases.

    If you see forums, yahoo answers, and squidoo lenses then you know it will be easy to rank.

    You could probably take the #1 spot with an EMD before any backlinking.

    I wish SEO was as simple as that, I do hope that the keyword is a good quality keyword with lots of searches, it easy to rank no one for an unpopular keyword. I am sure you will need to do more than 4-5 posts and many more backlinks to take no one spot for a popular keyword.

    To be honest I have not seen a forum thread hold a top position for a popular keyword, then I have not actually been searching for one.

      Because I figure it's best to target these very low competition keywords that will get me 5 or 6 visitors a day. I have a list of several keywords that only get 100-500 monthly searches and figure if I rank for each of these, or at least most of them then I will be looking at a steady 30-40 visitors to my blog each day.

      Alot of the keywords under this niche have a CPC from 3-12 dollars. If I can get a 10 percent CTR on a blog that is getting approximately 30 visitors a day, I could see about 1 dollar a day from this blog.

      My intentions are to build many blogs like this..

      I am aiming small, and aiming for small goals. I want to see a steady income, even if it is only 1 dollar a day. That is a start, and it is better then what I have been making.

      Once I have all of these websites up, I can decipher which ones are making the most money and I can better monetize them from there.

      Call me crazy but this, to me sounds like it could be very profitable later down the road. Please correct me if you think I'm wrong.

      Does anyone have any input on this method I plan to implement?

    All depends how popular that forum thread is on the net.

    I'm a Mod on a non-IM forum & we have a single thread with millions (seriously) of legit views on the single thread.

    That thread has a lot of external sites pointing backlinks at the forum thread.

    My point is, do the same research no matter If it's a blog page or a forum page, then decide If it's worth the time it will take to rank.

    As yukon says, do your research first.

    However, MOST forum threads are very easy to outrank. It's usually a signal that the keyword or phrase has low competition.
