Why Wiki Profiles Over Forum Profiles?

Your probably very aware but wiki profiles seem to have become very popular recently, more than forum profiles, but whats the difference? Sure they are .edu but there are many .edu forums as well?!

Has it got something to do with Google lowering the value of forum profiles and these are just the next big thing?

Thanks to who ever takes the challenge to answer this

These are just the next big thing that's being marketed.

Forum profiles have gotten a lot of heat recently as a result of post-Panda.

Therefore, resources have shifted towards this type of linkbuilding method. At the end of the day though, the links are just as similar as forum profiles and don't deserve more attention the forum profiles.

I realize OP is talking about wikis in general, & thousands of wikis exist.

I do however think that wikipedia, is in a league all it's own. Any backlink on wikipedia is gold IMO, just because I know Google trust wikipedia.

I have plenty of wikipedia backlinks showing in my Google Webmaster Tools, so I know that Google counts them even though they are nofollow (which isn't important).
