Google Has changed Local SERP results. It now resembles a yellow page book.

More Place page and only 3 organic listings.

New Changes to Google Places or Google Maps listings

How will this impact your Local SEO business?

How will this impact Google tools sold on this forum? Citation finders, local ranking, etc?

I guess not is the time to be selling Google Places Optimization- easier to get on page one for places and harder for organic seo. PPC looking better as well imho.

What are your thoughts?

Wow. I just did a search for hotels in Washington DC. Its pretty amazing. They've basically rendered the organic search results irrelevant. They have all the Places listings and Adwords above the fold. Hardly anyone is EVER going to click on the results below the fold.

I hate to sound like so many Google haters because I'm actually not, but I really wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future they start charging for "premium" Places listings so that everything above the fold is mo' money, mo' money, mo' money.

They already have a "premium" places listing type thing, it's called Boost. The fact that google places results are showing up above the fold really messed up my entire plan for this client of mine. Pretty much all the work done for organic SERP increase was done in vain, since I'm barely getting any traffic.

This is going to change some business models for sure. For one thing, it's going to be really hard to get a rent-a-site on the first page. Second, the emphasis will definitely need to be on ranking in Google Places rather than SEO work on the company's website.
