Yes, I have noticed that most of the spam social bookmarking sites are using .info.

I do think info domain is less popular than .com,.net and .org.Google only cares about the user's experience and the site popularity.Even though the seo work has the same effect on any domain.But for google's favor,I think you'd better to use the .com still if youwant to rank higher.

If you can't get the .com .org or .net then .info is fine, I've found .info's rank just as easily as .com's ect.

  I would agree with that statement. If the site is built around being user friendly and half decent SEO on the site as well as off it, then chances are good that it'll rank just as well as a .com.
  
  Of the things I've heard about the .info it's not that they're hard to rank. It just takes a bit longer for them to get established.
  
  I noticed some other comments about low quality social bookmarking sites using the .info domains. Maybe that's why it takes a bit longer. Just to see how the site develops.

Not sure if trolling or...

Ranking .info is the same as .com, .net or .org. I've found it to be an advantage when it comes to AdSense sites (depending on the niche), but I also think it would be a handicap when it comes to affiliate marketing - i myself would never buy things from an .info domain.

I don't see a big difference for rankings, but if you are trying to build a brand and want customers to return to your site better invest couple bucks more to buy a .com

People are used to it and will automatically type .com

It will be depending on how the webmaster managed the .info site to get ranked in search engine, and i think it doesn't matter if it is .com .org and .info as long as the site is optimized well and not a spammer.

You have to wait till godaddy has a $.49 sale (they do it all the time)...and then add in the $.18 Icann fee = $.67

I usually keep a spreadsheet of .info domains I want to buy...then they're all handy and ready to go when godaddy has a sale, I just swoop in and buy truckloads.

no this is a Myth Google dont look at domain extenstion , Google look at your contents of your site and how relevance these contents to your site topic/niche plus Google look on how many other sites that are similar to your niche are pointing to yours one (that is targeted backlink).. PERIOD

it doesn`t matter the domain extension, it ALL about competition, on & off page seo.
i had saw .info domain sold on flippa for 9000$. i had saw .info domains ranking 1# in google that gets over 1,000,000 visitors each month.
i think all this domain extension is bs. go buy yourname.info, add some content on it and search google for your name. it will be 1# in google.
of course .info will not rank well if you don`t do propper seo to your website. all this rumours about .info domains not ranking well came from people who don`t know how to do seo, newbies in internet marketing... they bought a .info domain because they`re afraid to invest in im and because it`s cheaper.
they didn`t got good results because they don`t know how to do it.
again, just my opinion...

I have ranked some sites relatively high with a .info, but those were typically proxies.
I would suggest you just use a .com, .org, or .net.

My intuition is that their $1 price tag makes them overwhelmingly popular with spammers, and anyone else who doesn't care enough about a website to buy a better TLD.

In my experience with .info's, the only thing I've noticed is that they seem to take longer to get indexed, and seem to be crawled less. But that's probably a self-fulfilling prophecy, even with the best intentions its hard to get excited about a .info and spend as much time on the content and promotion.

If you're building a serious website...going to make a brand out of it, do lots of authority building, offline marketing, etc, then by all means go with .com simply because that's less confusing to the general public you're trying to market to.

But for any kind of seo work, or adsense sites, or anything else... there is no penalty or downside to using .info's

A .info is about $3/year
a .com/.org.net is about $10/year

A $7 Difference

If you rank your site well, this amount of money can be done in ONE day or less

I go with the stats, google for them if you want, but

Given the same content a .com site will rank faster and easier than any other
Second comes .org
Close third are .net

Why to diminish my chance with a .info, and for just $7 a year, when I have so many good, great alternatives. even for the most wanted keywords, with domains already taken, you can add a stop word to your keyword and you will still get the full seo benefits of your keyword.

.Info doesnt carry as much weight with google and yahoo however it still ranks dont worry about it make sure you register with yahoo directory and the DMOZ also .edu links and .gov links will give you alot of juice and make up for the .info no problem

Hi, when .info was released a while ago they were cheap so many spammers purchased them, Google noticed this of cos. Now that price has increased for these, so in my opinion less spammers will find them attractive now. I do not think google will penalize you using one of these extensions. If you publish good content it should be no different then a .com or .net or .org. In terms of a user remembering your domain name or resell value the .com followed by .net would be a better choice.
