My main adsense money maker is a wordpress site, but it still is using wordpress version 2.5. It has a pr 4 now and receives 3k UV a day. I havent updated its wordpress version since 2007 and when I look on the steps that i have to do to upgrade it, i am kinda intimated...as I am afraid things might all get messed up...even the backing up of the files looks complicated for me.

Should I upgrade it? or do I just leave it as it is, as theres a saying that if aint broken dont fix it....or is there a provider out there that does this kind of service, you know, upgrading and backing up wordpress site if i am afraid to do it on my own.

There is a good plugin called WP DATABASE or something,it will backup all of your files. If you are scared, just take all of your site files and download them to the computer so you will know for sure that you have everything.

I havent done it before, but if you are really afraid, just ask someone to do it for you and than pay them.

If you do not update your wordpress version it can be susceptible to attack from hackers... so it is recommended to keep it up to date. From what I know about updating your wordpress only the plugins may be affected, not any of your content... so maybe disable your plugins and re-enable them after the update one by one to see which ones don't work after.

For security reason, I recommend you to upgrade your site to the latest versions. I know it's pain, but your won't regret it. Just back up your database fully before attempting to upgrade your site.

make a good backup before you do anything, and also check that the theme you are using is going to be compatible. otherwise there will be nothing to worry about (maybe you will have to take down your site for a couple of hours?? - but other than that nothing to lose - and probaly will gain with new wordpress features or plugins!

    Wow, no update since 2007?

This is what I would do since your site is so far behind.
    • Install WAMP + Worpress offline on your PC.
    • Backup your online site & save to your desktop.
    • Copy everything on the backup to a fresh WP install offline (WP + WAMP), all databases + WP plugins.

Test the WP upgrade offline, without messing with your real site. When everything is backed up & runs good offline, do the online WP upgrade.

I agree with the others - you should definitely update to the latest version just to better protect you against hackers, if for no other reason.

But you may also need this, since WordPress 2.5 didn't have the one-click upgrade function:
