Blog won't format right, help

I am building a new blog and my first post will not accept the H2 and H3 tags. I tried using the paragraph drop down, and that made the whole post H2. So I went into the HTML and placed the H2 and H3 tags manually. They didn't take, so I did it again and saved it as a draft. They still didn't show up and when I went back to the HTML, the tags were gone.
It is almost like this thing has a mind of it's own. What the hell is going on? I am using the Thesis 18b4 theme if that makes any difference.
