Why do some of YOU make KW research so complex?

I am what you call a KISS kind of guy.

I try to simplify everything as often as I can.

It seems like every SEO guide that I buy there is always a KW section.

Oh boy.......the things people do.

It goes like this:

"go to this tool and search for this, than go to that tool and look for that, than back over to this tool to drill down and grab this tool to analyze that, than search this and look for that, when you find this, use this tool to check this, once you have your KW phrase, rinse and repeat until you get 20 KW's.

Be sure you also check this and be sure you do have that, if you do, you'll need to use this tool to get around doing that"

This seems to be the way it goes. God grief. I'm wondering if that is doing for ego? Does it make them feel smart?

It seems if you make your keyword research 'complex' it makes the rest of the work simple. Getting lazy on KW research might save you a few minutes up front, but it will cost you time down the line.

When I pick the right keyword I get solid traffic within a week. When I don't do the proper planning and research and pick the wrong keyword it can take months to get ranked.

To really keep it simple you should take the time to get it right the first time. Makes life easier from the start on, instead of saving a few minutes at the start.

I keep it simple by outsourcing keyword research...and as mrjosco mentioned, there is quite a bit that goes into it if you want decent traffic and easy to rank for KWs!

But I definitely think it's easy to go down unnecessary rabbit trails.

There are places to take short cuts, and there are places to put in the effort. KW research is definitely the latter. That being said, something like 30% of all searches on Google are for keyword combos that have never been used before, so they wouldn't show up in any KW app anyway.

I'm sure we all appreciate simple concepts, but somethings are too important to be simplified. I don't exactly love doing keyword research, but I don't take any shortcuts, the initial work needed to do the research will determine the site's success, or failure.

Over simplify an important aspect and you may be screwed.

In my opinion, that's a big deal.

  Some people will make keyword research more complex than it has to to be. It is a spot that takes some time, and you need to do proper research. If you don't pick the right keywords, the game is over before it even begins.

Kw research is like the foundation for a house. Not something you want to skimp on. If, however, you're not interested in organic traffic from the search engines, then you can skip it.

While I agree that keyword research is the most important part of building a successful site and you should take your time and do your homework all the way through, I also think some people do make it harder than what it is.

I simply look at 2 thing;
Global search volume
top 5 Competition

If the keyword is being searched for a worthy number of times, and the top 5 competition are not big old trusted authority sites, I go for it. Simple as that. It works for me every time.

Ive been extremely successful mastering keyword research because it is the foundation of my article marketing, PPC campaigns, video marketing, and SEO lead magic. I have never bought a tool. I do however use a free tool that helps me generate thousands of free leads every single day. Its a skill that I had to learn and perfect. Do I enjoy doing it?....Absolutely not, but it generates traffic for my website which is essential part of anyone becoming successful and financially free.

There was a thread here recently, where the person was asking why they were in top position on google, for a keyword of significant traffic volume but were getting just a few visitors a day.

That in my mind is the biggest "DOH" you can make, gearing up to target keywords that nobody cares about.

The google keyword tool is set to "broadmatch" by default, so the keywords, "How to be popular" would show 15 million searches because it uses every separate word in the phrase.

I think this google keywords default setting tricks a lot of newbies.

People get complicated with keyword research because it is one of the most important parts of a search engine campaign. If you don't choose the right keywords you won't make as much money as you had hoped.

Good keyword research = Money

You don't need 15 tools to find the right keywords for your product but a few tools can really help you speed things along. Most of the things I do when I am looking for profitable keywords is done manually. Nevertheless, the process can be fairly time consuming.

When you want to find a good keyword to target, you must consider:

If the keyword is being searched enough times in Google
If the Cost Per Click is high
If the Competition is high in Google Adwords
If the Competition is low in Google's natural search results (you must consider your competitions search engine optimization timeline)
and so on and so forth.

I think the best tool ive purchased so far to help find keywords is micro niche finder. You can do most with googles keyword tool but it just speeds up the process BIG TIME.

Some people obsess over KW research. I used to be one of them.

But really, it's pretty simple. Is it a buyer keyword? Yes? Ok. Does there seem to be at least SOME traffic? Yes? Good. Is the top 3 competition relatively weak? Yes? Ok. It's a good keyword.

A lot of people get lost in "does this keyword have exactly 3,104 exact match searches a month" and less than so-and-so competing pages in Google, etc.

1. Is it a buyer keyword?
2. Is there enough estimated traffic to make it viable? Low search amounts are fine if it's heavily buyer focused.
2. Is the top 3 competition relatively weak?

Maybe they are just trying to help and remove the risk of picking a bad keyword. Some people prefer to spend their time on getting their keyword selection right before they create the content for it while others will create the content and then find keywords to fit. There is no right or wrong way and which ever route you take you will find the method that produces the best results for the way you like to work.

Many people struggle to come up with keywords that attract high searches without the strong competition. You need to look outside the box to find these gems. The complicated methods can help you find them while others take the simple route and fight for crumbs.

I feel the same way, I have my ways of getting good kw's but I know that it's always a new way to find them.

Do you guys know of any good up to date kw research guides out there?

I use 4 different tools and the process takes about 3 hours per niche. The main reason is that I value my time. I am not going to spend a month or so developing somethibg that won't cover the cost of my labor.

It is quite simple really - the first rule of business is to protect your investment.
