Bit the bullet with Yahoo directory...

I was reading some more info on the different directories, debating on whether to go for Yahoo, BOTW, etc. and decided to go with Yahoo since every SEO tool I use lists whether sites are listed with them. Hopefully I get a boost from my PR3 to a 4 or 5. They said I should get a response in 7 business days.

FYI, they will stop taking submissions from Dec 14th through the holidays, which is one reason I went with them today. I don't want to be sitting and waiting over the holidays not able to list with them.

Curious what everyone opinions are on this. I will let everyone know how it turns out, although I am doing a lot of link building so a jump may not just be tied to being listed in Yahoo.

    Wow Mike -

That's one heck of an expensive link, and also are your priorities in the
right place? You mention that you hope that you raise your PageRank.
I'm sure you know there are much cheaper and effective ways to raise
your PageRank than buying a link in the Yahoo Directory, right?

But the real question - why bother worrying about your PageRank?
Rankings pay the bills, not PageRank. Focus on getting your site ranked
for your keywords than worrying about your PageRank.

A PageRank 1 website that's ranked for a ton of keywords is worth way
more than a PageRank 5 that isn't ranked for anything. Keep that in mind.

Mike, I'm with Rev, $299 for one link (although there are some links I might pay that much for) is outrageous and will probably not make the difference you are looking for. If you can back out on that, do it and use that money on something else.

I am trying to use various methods to make up a lot of ground. The keywords I am shooting for are metric conversion and currency converter. Very, very tough. Although my site is ranking for many variations of metrics like 'feet to meters' and different currencies, but not high enough to get any organic traffic. To be as competitive as possible I want to give my site a high PR, and the backlink from Yahoo itself can't hurt.

I am submitting backlinks to free directories, some pay ones($10-20), I am also using other backlink techniques and even paid a service to generate edu and gov backlinks.

All my traffic right now is from adwords campaigns. I figure the sooner I can start capturing organic traffic the sooner I can drop paid ads. If Yahoo can get me there a few weeks early, it will actually pay for itself.

If anyone want to evaluate if it was the right decision, just analyze my domain I did it for, formulaconversion.com

Curious about your thoughts after analyzing my domain and the competition.

  • just take a dive and go with it.

It may be the ranking factor your site has needed, it may not do anything

the only way to tell is to try it first hand
