Can Social Bookmarking increase rank?

If you hit a site with a 2-3K SB blast you can see some very impressive ranking improvements, as in from >1000 to first page with some KWs. In my experience, the new rank doesnt really stick that well and they tend to slide back down unless you are doing other high quality backlinking.

I agree here. It is good for getting notices, but social sites tend to have sooo many links you juice is far too diluted to make a difference. Followed links from old root domains in the same subject. Now thats the way to make your rankings stick like glue.

So long as its do follow and have some page rank it will surely help your ranking. There are several ways you can use this techniques, you can create some level of tier links and build rank to it or create a link wheel and blast your site with the social bookmarking links.

You will want to do this consistently until you arrive at your destination.

Yes, in volume it will help you rank keywords. In my experience a dripped campaign (let's say 1500 bookmarks) over a month will have about 60-70% of the effectiveness as a 1500 bookmark blast immediately on a page/site.

Yes it doesn't have to be do follow but you certainly what majority of the links to be do follow. A mixture of no follow and more of do follow is needed.

Social Bookmarking definitely be helpful to get the rank for the keyword. But be sure that you have choose the right keyword for your site. As keyword in the sense title as it is the thing that drive people to click on your link. And with the right title provide unique description that attract people to your site. The problem could be that you used it only once. Maybe you didn't do enough. Maybe the SB sites all had Zero Page rank so you didn't get much quality links. I'm just guessing but it can be any of these reasons.

This 2012 people. Social bookmarking died last year.
Spam and idiotic takeovers killed it.

Social bookmarking does nothing for rankings.

But, this is one "technique" that will refuse to die as
long as people refuse to stop, look, and listen.

But it's quite useless.

I can't imagine why anyone would create a list of such
nonsense. After the first one or two, at best, the list
would be insanely trivial.

Social bookmarking should be combined with other link building methods to be most effective. It is a minor part of my linkbuilding and I have done quite well over the last year. There are other things you can be doing in the same amount of time to maximize the effectiveness of your link building.

Social bookmarking is a very good way to get a page indexed, and has other benefits too. The main function is to share your new page with others who have similar interests and hopefully this gets shared and retweeted etc by others. In other words they go viral. It is mainly through this route that your content becomes more popular, which in turn encourages more visitors and often an improvement in rank.

Rank improvement is usually the end result of a successful marketing plan, rather than the initial intention.

In my experience it increases your keyword rank if you use quality content. Moreover, for getting higher page rank sites like FB, Twitter, Google+, Stumble Upon digg etc. are the best option but you have to quality contents else no benefits.

I only use social bookmarking to get decent backlinks but I never think of it as a way to get better ranking. If you are determined to get a nice rank in Google then do article marketing, build links in high ranking sites by blog commenting, forum marketing helps out too.

I do use social bookmarking for backlinking and get results. What I don't do, however, is automated bookmark generation and submission (well, I do use tools such as Social Adr to submit my bookmarks automatically). I create unique spun content (not automatically spun, I mean manual spun content that is readable and unique) and submit that.

Bookmarking is far from dead. Bookmarking itself won't fly your page up the SERPS but it will help build PR and traffic if done consistently over a period of time. The reason why it's disregarded alot now is because there are other things like link building that can and will fly your page up the SERPS and also help build PR. Basically the Quick Fix Vs. Slow Boat to China. Most will choose the quick fix first and once you've piled up enough cash then investing in Social bookmarking, and the likes is like icing on the cake.

Without a doubt it's effective.

It won't get you the best links, but it will get you some decent ones and some useless ones.

It will get you indexed.

Some of the big sites might even send you some traffic.

It's always been one of the first things I do for off-page SEO.

Yeah bookmarking can be excellent but it all boils down to the same thing...content! There's no point bookmarking rubbish content that no-one is interested in reading or viewing. The only way to get any decent value out of it (especially since Panda ;-)) is if people actually like what your submitting and plug it themselves...

If you truly have quality, unique content on your site I think it's foolish not to maximize your Google Plus presence. Those Plus ones will push you up in some SERPs. At least in the individualized ones. Not to mention that Big G is likely to give some preference to users of their service.

There's a site that popped up recently devoted to gathering test data on G+ effectiveness in SEO. Maybe gplusseo dot com?

Yes it helps , especially twitter. don't bother about no-follow and do-follow, also it helps in indexing your backlinks. so try creating backlinks and retweet your backlinks on twitter , it helps to get those indexed. It also applies for wiki links.

Be careful with just one type of backlinks. You need link diversity. Sure a blast of a few thousand links can have a nice effect on your rankings, but it will slip back unless you combine it with other types of links as well. Social Bookmarks should not in any case be you main method of backlinking. Learn how to get the Link Mix right first. A Link Strategy is always a good idea before you start blasting away.

I've used social bookmarking mainly for indexing new sites or new pages. I haven't really tried using it for ranking purposes. If you're trying to rank very easy keywords, it can help, but I doubt for medium competitive ones.

depends on the amount of links you are getting and how competitive your keyword is...i got movement on one keywords for a particular niche which wasn't too competitive but not a lot. I also tried it for a competitive term and it got nothing...wikis haven't worked for me either

I generally bookmark my posts to generate traffic to my niche, but it can prove to be very good for your keywords too. In your case, you need to bookmark each page of your niche.

Social Bookmarking needs new and diversified ways for you to get the full benefit of it. Building social bookmark links straight to your website is not really a good idea nowadays because of some relevancy issues.

Mostly, it is now used as a buffer pages booster in tiered linking structure.

It is really hard to achieve a great rank ONLY with Social Bookmarking. They could help you yes for indexing and extra traffic, maybe forum and article marketing would be better to get a better position in Google!

Social Bookmarking still does work (I only have experience with Twitter though) - Used it 3 weeks ago for my new site (Direct link) where I dripped 20 tweets directly to my money site for 3 days = 60 tweets and my ranking were from 1000+ to 25 within those 3 days. I jumped more than 900 (There was little competition according to MS - 13,000, but still.

The rankings retained and kept improving because I did some other BL'ing and now I'm #9 and I haven't maintained my site for a week. It was slapped by Yahoo, bing, and everything else besides google so I'll probably scrap the site.

Social bookmarking is one method as the other for getting the results through it. As if one use the unique description in the submission of the bookmarking , then can get the best results. And if one want to get so ,many backlinks for the site through the social bookmarking then can get the quick result of the backlinks through it.
