Recently I have started using google alerts for finding new fresh potential backlinks. If you set up an alert for your niche you can get niche related websites in your mail box each day and then I either post a comment or ask the webmaster to add a link to my site. If you write your link request politely and emphasize that the web masters readers might find your own site useful they are usually more than happy to add link

I use Google Alerts to see what's going on in my niche, watch any news related to my niche, etc.

It's a great tool and can also be used for SEO. You can set Google Alerts to send you news not by email, but via RSS feed. You can create RSS feeds like that for as many keywords as you want and then compile them together using a tool like Yahoo Pipes. With this new feed, you can do a whole bunch of things - include it on your FB page, syndicate the content that is fed through it with a network like ping.fm and many more...

    Hope this helps a little

This is a great tip. The Google Alerts bring you the most active players in your niche and all we have to do is pursue the links as needed. This makes hunting down link partners much easier. Thanks for sharing!
