I would suggest that you start build backlinks slowly. I would suggest that you should build a few but high quality backlinks than building many junk backlinks around the internet.

Steady Link Building, Quality over Quantity

First 30 days: 10-20 links per day maximum. Your website is new without any organic traffic so to many links cause cause a red flag.
30-90 days: 20-30 links per day, by now your site should have a steady stream of organic traffic so increasing the daily amount won’t hurt.

And then as much you can.

Not at all, if you mean 1 quality link per day. Some keywords could easily rank #1 with 30 quality backlinks, so you'd be ranking at the top in no time.

Agree with both of you! Quality of the links is important.

Also, make sure to mix all kind of backlinks - social bookmarks, blog posts, article submissions, video submissions, etc. Mixing is good and does look natural.

Building up links gradually and in the course of time seems to be a very great strategy, especially for your website which has been rather newly launched and still not having many strong links. Of course there is another notion and even supported by some big names in the industry that even gathering tons of one-way links will not damage rankings of the sites but to be on the safe line, try gradually gathering those links, the ones that will remain online for a long time.

Since your website as you have mentioned is to get monetized through AdSense, perhaps thinking about adding fresh content pages to that would also be a great idea. Write materials that are sought by avid readers and webmasters and they will help improving your earnings also. If you can, try to stick with some plans, for example if you are going to gain five links per day, attempt to stick with this formula for some time because even trends in link building can be important.

I think much of what you guys are suggesting is too slow.

You can build many more links than what people are suggesting the key is to keep the amount steady. If you can add 100 links a day, consistently, go for it. People end up getting hurt when they blast it with backlinks and then let it sit for weeks at a time. That shows that there is unnatural backlinking going on.

Consistency is key.

There is no perfect answer for your question, but it is better to go for a constant backlinks everyday, say 10 daily.... Make sure you ping all the links daily and announce Google - "Hey Mr.Big G, I have got some links for you, visit and index them"

It's a too broad question if we don't even know how strong the competition is and at what pace they are creating backlinks to their sites. Without such data, we can't really answer question.

For some of my sites, I can very well get by with only 2 or so backlinks per day, others need a few tens backlinks to stick at the top.

I would love to see how many sites you guys have ranked using your 10 backlinks a day strategy.

Consistency is the only thing that matters. If you blast 1000 links a day, consistently, there will not be a problem. When Google notices that you are getting 1000 one day and nothing for a week, and then another 1000, then nothing...that is when you will start to develop a problem with backlinking.

If you are consistant and diligent in your efforts, there is no maximum banklinks per day.

Holy smokes!!!! Is this confusing or what????? I've heard a 1000 different backlinking strategies in my 6 years of IM...I tried a lot of them too... but found out that most of it was bad advise or BS....like forum profiles and blog comments and .edu links too.

If you really want to get serious about IM then use BMR. Plain and simple!!!

It depends on the niche and traffic you need - Generally the backlink building should look natural to google - No matter however efficient you build your links it won't be equivalent to natural links - so build quality content so that many will link to your website - Cheers!

For me, the best mix I find are quality backlinks on a drip feed with link velocity....talk about a lethal combo!

But, the trouble is finding and maintaining those types of links for long period of time... luckily I have a lot of help on the WF for that. =)

As a first time web designer i am struggling to get 1 backlink per day. Learning day by day, however, it seems currently my google ranking, is down to lack of backlinks. Maybe i am miss reading the idea of backlinks, but still dont think i am. I dont know how other people construct backlinks. For starters from what i understand social networking sites do not register as backlinks in google panda system and well dont show up in my google listings anyway. So that only leave blog postings, forum posting and directories. for (1) 90% of sites i find, that supply a list of backlink sites, none of the links work (2) none of these automatic link builders work or atleast for a new website (3) every time I find a site with backlinks (do or dont follow) the link never shows up in the google webmaster (4) I really dont have the time to spent hunting around forums and blogs to post messages in order to gain backlinks.

I know i am new to web design and i am not a professional web designer and i dont no a whole lot about SEO, eventhough i am learning. However, the excersise seems to be so stupid, when you see all the pointless blogs or comments around the net just for the purpose to gain backlinks. Along with the fact that people seem to search for them in the most stupid of places. As a new web designer i expected SEO to be the easy part and web design to be the hard part, i could not be more wrong. I am starting to think people may have some hidden knowledge that i dont know or money to spend to pay someone to do it for them.

Don't over do it but guys think about it logically... will you ever get a penalty for building too many backlinks? NO. I could go bomb all of your sites with crap links and have rankings in your niches on easy street. Worst case scenario, they won't count the links you've built.

Just follow the fundamentals, make it look natural. If you're building 1000 links a day, keep building a 1000 links a day. Don't stop and expect to stay at #1 forever.

To me, 5-10 is too few. Is google going to find them all that same day? Maybe, maybe not. If it were me, I'd build 100+ a day, because I mean business. I'm here to beat my competitors, not build 5-10 crappy links like they are every day. Give it a shot and come up with your own answers.

Depends on quality..
You need to get backlinks from high page rank websites. or you should get links from .edu and .gov website because google depends more on them. you can search
"site:.edu" to search .edu websies.
to search forums "site:.edu forum"
and same for .gov webisites.

If your site is new you have to be very very careful, a single mistake lead your site out of google. It has been advisable to get the aged domain, New site dances a lot like hell. I have been facing this issue from one month. My sites are still dancing don't what the heck google wants.

So don't over ride the links. Build links with slow velocity and increase it.
