List your top three SEO tips in this thread.

I'm hoping to create a list of some of the most powerful things you can do to boost your rankings.

Here are three of mine.
  • Use Wordpress!
  • Convince bloggers to link to your site by providing them with a good story
  • Ensure your articles have a good keyword at least twice in the content

Now I'm still fairly new to applying SEO on purpose, but in the past I've created a few very successful (in SEs) websites using these few tips.

What are yours?

    1) education (all the SEO information is out there; if you don't have it, keep reading)

    2) analytics (only way to see if you're getting anywhere; Google Analytics at a minimum)

    3) continuing education (this stuff is fluid, keep up with it)

    1. Trade quality links instead of spamming sites giving you low value backlinks for free, that won't help your rankings anyway.

    2. Content is king, with good content others will link to you automatically and you'll save alot of work and money building all those links yourself.

    3. Don't believe that there are secrets. There aren't really secrets in SEO. Sure, it's knowledge combined with work...but there isn't any hidden button you can press for instant top rankings for competitive terms.

Social bookmarking to website - different pages and index
Write articles - submit to ezine articles and top article directories, then I bookmark these
Submit url to directories, and use them on forum signatures.

    Just from doing this I have a PR2 and a PR3 domain.

    In regards to building backlinks....

Is it better to build backlinks to specific pages on your site or to sub pages?

    i.e.
    backlink to yourdoman.com
    or
    backlink to yourdoman.com/subpage.html

Does it matter for page rank, etc..?

You want both. Your site will develop a more realistic, natural, linking pattern when both sub pages and the root index are linked to with appropriate keywords. Remember every page has it's own PR and placement in search results for keywords. You may even end up with subpages having PR higher than the root as is the case with my review blog.

If it was me, I'd bookmark my main page and only the featured pages in my site.
Also the "about me" page, and why not, if you have articles in article directories, hubpages, squidoo lenses, facebook or twitter profile page, flickr, etc, I'd bookmark them all

Bookmark helps indirectly of getting back links but you can't simply bookmark your page. It looks like spam you know.

Anyway, blog network is probably my prefer ways of getting links.
    what do you think

It's interesting to read over the tips in here. We truely are moving towards SEO 2.0. I would of say a lot of what is being mentioned is more social marketing. I am not sure I agree with bookmarking as an easy strategy. I do this but to make it work you really need to spend time on sites like Digg etc building up a fan base. I have found results from other bookmark sites quite weak. Am I doing something wrong ?

From an SEO point of view I would say

      1. Community marketing, getting links from your market weather its forum, sites or blogs.
      2. Using your keyword in your internal navigation
      3. Create a keyword blueprint of your site so you can pin point what your entry pages should be.

      Oh and lastly

Analytics, which to me is the future of core SEO stuff (or as I like to think of it in the future Conversion Optimisation) ...

These are all great ideas, but don't forget the basics:
    • Great title tags
    • Correct URL structure
    • Correct URLs, with tags and hyphens
    • Great meta descriptions
    • Correct link structure, working towards silos
I see so many sites that get these things 100% wrong it makes me cry.

I'd say it comes down to two things, Effort and time, this really needs a lot of time invested on it and can really affect other things you do on a lifetime basis, otherwise, you'll just know the basics and on SEO you pretty much have to be the best to get real results.

    1) every thing you do on wordpress - mirror it on blogspot
    2) every thing you do on flickr - mirror it on picasaweb
    3) slow down - do NOT submit to zillions of places:

    You've got 180 days
    spread it out -

    WW1 analogy:
one side came up with tanks
    the other countered
one side came up with airplanes
    the other side countered

If you're going up against someone and they don't counter- you win

If you want me to walk you through it
    get on my waiting list

how does one get on my waiting list?

    1. Regularly updating the blog with "quality", "unique" content.
    2. A Catchy and keyword rich Title
    3. Quality backlinks (from relevant sites)

In my opinion, Those three are the main factors for anybody, which decide the fate of their blog.
