301 redirect for keywords

I had read somewhere that you could use a redirect for different keywords. Like I could have homepage.com gather keywords for make money online by having a homepage.com/make-money-online which just automatically redirects to homepage.com (hope that makes sense).
But if its just a redirect how is it going to even be indexed under those keywords if the search bots scan the content to see if the keywords are even included in the content?
Can anyone explain this?
