Multiple domain names going to a single domain name

My sister owns a company with baby gifts.

We decided to buy about 5 domains that are related to the site.

I have currently done a 403 redirect page to the online shop on each domain, will this hurt our google ratings?

    It will not hurt your rankings but it should be a 301 redirect. However what is the point of having the domains if you are not utilizing them?

    Usually you do a 301 redirect for an easy to remember domain name and direct it to your website which may not be so user friendly but very search engine friendly. That way you can print or tell people the easy domain name while keeping your SEO name.

    You could utilize the pages as blogs and host them on separate hosting than your ranking website, creating links to your website from them. This would benefit you. Even just creating quick websites on the domains and hosting them on a different host than your money site while creating a couple links to your real domain would help.

      You don't want to do anything with a 403....that would cause
      problems.

      There really is no penalty for a 301 redirect, but people use
      multiple domains for type-in purposes. There is no
      seo benefit to them whatsoever. For example, people
      probably go to espn.com a lot, and get redirected to
      espn.go.com. Nobody is going to type in your domains
      unless they are on a printed ad like a business card.

      Those 301 redirected domains will not show, most likely,
      unless a person actually searched for the domains. How
      likely is that?

      Better to develop the domains, even if it's one page. Put
      a link to the main site on it.

    Really you should use a 301 redirect. Why do you want the domains if you are not developing them?

    we want them to stop competition getting them, some are good search terms, and a couple are the .com or .co.uk version of other companys with sell back potential

    As they have said use 301 redirects and I agree with that. Since those domains are related to your niche, it won't hurt your website as long as you do proper redirection.
