I did seo already, but I'm not sure if I do it correct so that's why I'd like to ask few questions. Basically what I did is I went to google adwords keyword tool, checked "exact" search and unchecked other 2, set language and contry to all, enter a keyword and look for other keywords. Then I clicked every keyword there so it opens in new window, and I checked number of results shown in (if it was more then 500k I considered too much competition).

Now I'd like to ask if what I did is good?

Also I have few questions I'd like to ask additionali:

- how to choose if keyword has too strong competition (sometimes I hear that number of results shown is not very important)

- how to find good keywords and analyize them using only google and their keyword tool (no software or something)

Thanks in advance.

Take your potential keywords and check their allintitle and allinturl amounts. I like to stay under 50k for each.

It's almost impossible to find keywords with decent traffic and under 50k results.

Totally ignore what anyone says who tells you to look allintitle, inurl or in "" as it means nothing.

There are loads of ways to analyse a keywords potential and people use different techniques and you will no doubt pick what you feel works best.

One option is to use something like traffic travis to help analyse them as it gives you a rating. Personally I just go into G keyword tool and put in the seed keywords and then look at longer tail keywords around this and rank them by exact searches and go for ones with around 2k to 5k searches a month. Then go into google and enter the searches and then if I think it is a goer then go into spyglass and check the backlinks to see if they are targetting the keyword(s) you want. A lot of whether I go for it is based on experience and if I think it will be easy I.e. pages not really targeting the keywords and just ranking because of the overall authority of the domain, only low value links pointing towards the domain.

I could write a book on this in much more detail, a lot of seo is all about trial and error, take what you learn with one site and try it with your next and hopefully you can start to rank for harder more profitable keywords.

      Are you kidding me?

So, if OP is comparing two keywords and the only information he currently had was search volume and CPC, you're saying allintitle and allinurl wouldn't be useful? Maybe you shouldn't make blanket statements that will confused people who are getting started.

In reality, it's probably best to just look at the top ten results, because that will be your main competition. However, while doing keyword research, allintitle and allinurl can be extremely helpful when you are trying to get an idea of how much competition there is for a particular niche.
