Black hat is unfriendly for search engine. when we use black hat for a website for promotion then it will not stay longer. Search engine will punish those website and White hat is friendly for search engine

Black hat SEO is illegal method to do SEO and to get results where as white hat is the legal and authorised method to get results for the site. And avoid to make use of black hat method though it provide instant results for your site but then you will get sudden drop in your site results or may be you get penalty to your site.

  I think you will find that most seo is black hat ie you are faking links to gain in the SERPS. Although most people's opinion is that mass linking using tools is black hat (or some grey - a bit in the middle) and manual more natural is white hat (so things like guest blogging, proper social campaigns etc).
  
  Although IMO the only real white hat is creating a site/concept that people naturally link too. Do you create a great free download for example, people find it and then link to it saying check this out or found this great tool or whatever.
