Are backlinks that show up on Alexa.com more important than banklinks that do not?

Is more weight put on them? Only a small percentage of mine show up there.

Nope. Some of our backlinks never show up on any backlink checkers at all (and these are for sites we rank #1) but we don't build backlinks for the software checkers which are marginal at best, we build them and track them via rankings.

Alexa can't find all of your backlinks and refresh time is a little slow so because of this you can't see all of your backlinks (for now).

Nope, does not matter. If you really want to check your backlinks then get the URLs and do site:URL in G and see if they are indexed and cashed with your link (then you know they are counted). You can do this on a mass with tools like Scrapebox.

    Hey Bill,

I have a website that shows 2500++ backlinks, but Alexa only indicates 6 backlinks. And I believe majority of the sites have got into this situation before. Let me explain as follows:-

Well. Alexa in fact gathers information from the users of their toolbar. Let's say, if there are no Alexa toolbar users visited any of the sites that has backlinks pointing to your site, then Alexa does not know if it exists.

I believe this is the challenge that Alexa has to face since the number of online users actually using Alexa toolbar where it is still not enough to cover all niches and all hobbies/interests.

If I were you, I would not get upset because of this. I would rather concentrate in getting my sites to rank high up in search results which is ultimately my goal, not getting rated high by Alexa.

    Hope it helps...

    Raymond

When search engines calculate the relevance of a site to a keyword, they consider the number of QUALITY inbound links to that site. So we should not be satisfied with merely getting inbound links, it is the quality of the inbound link that matters.
A search engine considers the content of the sites to determine the QUALITY of a link. When inbound links to your site come from other sites, and those sites have content related to your site, these inbound links are considered more relevant to your site. If inbound links are found on sites with unrelated content, they are considered less relevant. The higher the relevance of inbound links, the greater their quality.
