Is blog commenting good?

It is useful if the blogs are low OBL, high PR, EDU/GOV, dofollow, etc.

If you want a good dofollow list you're better purchasing one from a seller that sells a limited number of copies so that they're not already highly spammed.

I don't trust commenting to get traffics or backlinks.

I wouldn't use blog comments in order to get traffic from the comment itself, as that is unlikely to work. Just use it to get the backlinks. On the other hand, guest blog posts can bring you good traffic if it is targetted to your niche.

Blog commenting still works, and is still a good source of traffic & backlinks (if done correctly).

blog commenting is a very good way for getting a good traffic towards your website but its not the best way for link building and traffic. There are other ways available you can post articles and social bookmarking sites for getting users.

I still use blog commenting but nothing beats a fresh new article with backlink.

Blog commenting is much different than it was, even just a year ago. Gone are the days of throwing thousands of junk comments at your site and hitting page 1.

Here's how I look at it:

1. Commenting on moderated & DOFOLLOW blogs is still pretty powerful. Especially if you can find PR1 or higher, dofollow posts. I'll point these types of links at my main sites. Sure, not all of your comments will be approved. But would you rather have 10 PR1 or higher, dofollow backlinks, or 1,000 nofollow / PR0 backlinks? I'll take the 10 every time.

2. Automated comments still have their place. But pointing them at your main sites can be a little risky. You're better off pointing these at your "tiers." Basically, "backlinking your backlinks." They can still help as far as getting your backlinks indexed, and even giving them a little boost. Also, I've had a lot of success pointing 100% DoFollow Scrapebox blasts at YouTube videos. Currently on page 1 for a number of different medium competition terms. (8,000+ exact searches a month.)

JS is right about looking for MODERATED dofollow comments and posting on them. Blasting out to thousands of auto approve blogs is absolutely pointless as the OBL will kill any value of the link as it fills up with spam over time. Find (as relevant as possible) Dofollow, MODERATED blogs and your link will definitely be of value and worth your time. I use scrabebox to find these blogs fast, but have never once used the auto comment feature. You can quickly search for blogs and check PR relatively quickly. I also use social bookmarks, article submissions, and web 2.0 open link pyramids along with blog comments for really nice link diversification.

If you comment on High PR pages and niche related ,

with Low OBL then its really very helpfull

If only the blogs are do-follow, have a PR3+ and have less than 10 OBL... Which is really hard to find, so better try with article or forum marketing a much easier to do!

I believe it is the best linking technique. My personal plan is to target blogs ranked higher than my blog, or key words. Than leave a comment on them. I use as my search string: "keyword" + Blog , I find if i am ranked in the list, and where; and start with the blog above me commenting.

Another thing that a lot of people don't think to do is comment on blogs that are ranking well for trending terms. (Something that is getting a LOT of searches.) For example, right now the Daytona 500 is trending. A Google News / Blog search shows a ton of news stories and blogs. If you can get your comment on one of the most popular ones you can drive a decent amount of traffic to your site. Clearly if you've got a site about knitting, not many people are going to click through. But if you've got a site that is even loosely related it can bring in some pretty good traffic.

Blog commenting definitely but not the way it used to earlier i.e. before Big G's freshness and PR updates. Earlier any type of comment whether it is to the topic or not whether the comment reflects the interest of the commenting to the blog or his readability it was counted but now no more spamming. Now you need to go through the blog in order to reply and have to reply your mind properly so that your comment could get recognition apart from the blog owner to the search engines too. Now being informative or discuss is the only way to get your each link count. Google made these updates because it had lots of complains of not being directed to the relevant link as per the search and so Google made the changes being very strict. Even one spam link can ruin your web business/entity. Never look for auto approve dofollow blogs/forums, try to contribute yourself to the web as you will not just what you want but will learn too.

Yes blog commenting is very useful. Just be sure that the blog comments on the site you will place your link allows following links

All i am interested these days is automation...
I have a edu 500 auto aprove list ... but with very high OBL...

I can do anything else , like forum profiles, wiki contextual links, social links...

No one has time but that doesn't mean you should get positive results for what you have done something not as the policy. I could just suggest you rest is upon you!
