How do you know the link has been crawled If it's not indexed?

Agree, except you are working for google. Big G will not oupout all crawled stuff to the result pages.

You can monitor traffic/referrers. It's not very hard. You need access to either:

        1. Site where the link is placed.
        2. Site where those links are hosted somehow (either packaged in RSS feeds or similar).

Build links that get indexed without any extra effort and you won't have to worry about any of this.

The answer is yes. Obviosuly an indexed link is goign to be more beneficial to rankings but even the ones that just get crawled are enough for google to know they exist and whether or not to give them any weight.

Sometimes it happens that Google doesn't indexes a crawled link, well it is not count unless indexed! You can check in Matt Cutts blog or Google's blogspot!

Yes absolutely, of course if it gets indexed that means google finds more value in the content around the link. But google will still know the link is there just by crawling it, think of indexing as the next decision in googles mind after crawling it

Yes I think Google considers these links. Although Indexed links will pass on more benefit to the keyword, but by crawling also, Google will know that the link is present there.

After crawling a link, bots add them into their link graph for future indexing... Only after crawling the link graph, a website gets credit of backlink.

whoa, so much misinformation out there it's scary! First of all you should always do your own testing and figure things out for yourself because as you can see everyone here has their own personal opinion and most of it is just opinion and not based on any testing but hearsay and what they think!

From my personal testing over the last few years once a link has been crawled and yes I can see when it is crawled(for the guy who said you can never tell if a site has been crawled, I guess he has never heard of webmaster tools or even simple stats plugin will tell you when your site has been crawled and what pages so once a page or a link on a page has been crawled I have seen results in serp's for a keyword without it being indexed so from my extensive testing and research it does not matter one bit if it is indexed as long as google has crawled it.

For example I took an inner page on my blog from brand new created page and in 3 weeks when the PR update rollled around I got a PR 4 and with only a few hundred backlinks??? Well that is because I actually had well over 1,000 high quality backlinks done but not indexed so I got the PR 4 and #1 ranking but without 2/3 of my links even being indexed. So that proof should give you the evidence you need to come to the conclusion you have been looking for! Good luck!

Not necessarily. Google might not index a page because it is identified as low quality content, spun content, thin content etc.... Why would Google count any links on that page if it was flagged and not worthy of being in their index. In there eyes, poor page... Poor links! Of course, none of us will really know the answer.

Andy, that is why you do NOT create bad backlinks or low quality backlinks. I don't. I create good content and do not spin it and make it unreadable and I only post to High PR sites. Of course if you do low quality backlinks like profile links they will not get crawled or indexed and even if they do get crawled they have no value to be counted so even if indexed they are worthless for serp's.

This is the first time I see a question like this // Can I answer it again with a question? Do you have money if your pockets are empty? You can have money in other places, but this is NOT so important. So, your link is somewhere online... but if Google doesn't know where it is, NOBODY knows where it is!

Right, but you must also think of it in terms of a waterway.. one faucet that you can see flows to another faucet in the sewer, then back up to another faucet that you can see.. just because the faucet thats in the sewer is unseen (not indexed), it is still connected to the pipeline (spidered or crawled), and so the water flows through, indexed or not.

In my opinion if a page is crawled by Google bot and it identifies a change in the page it will be indexed automatically. If you get a link a from a page(Which is indexed on Mar 1)on Mar 10. If the page gets crawled on Mar 15 it will be indexed automatically due to some changes on that page.
