PRWeb vs. Free Press Release Sites

Greetings,
I understand that issuing press releases with linked keywords and whatnot can be good for SEO, and I actually have some newsworthy content coming up, so my question to the forum: Do I need to go through a paid service like PRWeb to maximize the SEO AND news value of my releases, or would I be just as well off going through the free PR distribution services?

I've got a half dozen reasonably newsworthy announcements coming in the next few months, so I want to make sure I'm getting the biggest bang for the buck on all of them. But of course, I don't want to spend any money doing it!

Thanks!

I did a split test. For links-in purposes, submitting to all the free sites gave me about the same effect as the $200 PRWeb option. It took a long time to do it, because I filled out all the profiles, used all available formatting, etc.

For SEO link authority purposes, PRWeb was better in that one test, probably due to the fact that submissions to get to more credible sites-though not as many as I expected from their sales page.

Every press release through PRWeb automatically gets posted on the PRWeb site(PR7), Google News, and Yahoo News.

You get what you pay for to a certain extent. PRWeb will get you higher quality distribution in general.

SEO and backlink wise, free PR sites can be just as good IF you have enough in your arsenal to submit to. Traffic wise, I'm pretty sure PRWeb is far better.

PRWeb is too expensive according to my projects. I use Free Press Release sites and they work fine for me.

Thank you! Thank you! This is exactly what I needed!

I'm the behind the scenes person of my husband's business plus I'm promoting three of my own. I have three press releases being written right now through fiverr but was hoping to get around having to pay another chunk o' cash to distribute all of them.

You shouldn't be looking at a press release to build automatic back links.

If you can garner actual, genuine media coverage - you'll get higher authority links than any free site or SEO press release service can give you.

Check out the link in my signature.

I'm not using press releases for back links. I'm using them for the exposure and publicity - to get traffic to the website and make sales, not to get back links. But right now, unfortunately, I don't have $39 x 4 to invest so free will have to work for a while yet until a couple of these businesses really start picking up.

The last free PR submission I did resulted in a reporter calling for an interview for a niche publication so I'm happy with the free stuff for a while.

But thanks so much for the link and info!

Are you required to register the News Publisher software for $19 or can you bypass that and use it for free?

Couple things, as this is your own software:

      - There are not 100 places this submits to, as we found out here, yet the site still says that today after we pointed that out to you & confirmed this (when we used it there were 45 and some needed manually set up,so maybe 38 or less automated).

      - This is not a 1-time fee, yet the site still says that today after we pointed that out to you & confirmed this, too.

...See the points above that I've written, ksmusselman and goldcanyon. Just want to make sure people are comparing the right info. It may be different now, but want to make sure you and others in the thread who are actively seeking tools get more clear info, if possible.

Also note: during a fully paid version* test run, we didn't find the release went anywhere but 1 site and with no hyperlinks allowed at that. The report only says, "True" for all places supposedly submitted to, no links or anything.

So to date, manually still works best. You also get more control manually. You can make hyperlinks and make sure keywords are filled out, profiles, etc. as allowed by the sites.

So free and paid tools - -- depends upon what outcome you want as to which is best. PRWeb's tools may cost the most but are excellent, as others say. If your budget, or your client's budget is not that much to cover their costs, though, manually submitting to a few top sites works best. And don't be afraid to market these releases once they are published on the site. Add RSS feeds to your blogs, tweet about the release and add a link in your tweet, and post about it with a link on Facebook, add the release to your client's media page, etc. Work it! Even on PRWeb the releases run on a timed feed, like a ticker tape. In seconds it's history. Work those releases, market them - charge ahead, Warriors!!

*We do like to test run all types of tools, as time allows, to see which ones really do make the mark today, and which are not presented right or just plain don't work.

No matter what service you use, free or paid but start submitting press releases.

Look I keep preaching the virtues of issuing press releases for good reason. Right now I looked at the Analytics of one our sites and who is the biggest referrer? PRlog.org. It's a free press release site. I am not suggesting something that I just heard about. I speak from experience and use press releases on a very regular basis.

So spend $10 to $20 and buy an ebook on how to write press releases. Then start submitting them.

        Good Luck!

I highly recommend PRWeb, I have used them for over 2 years now and it brought me a ton of media coverage. But even though choosing the right distribution service is important, I think the quality of your press release is even more important.

As for PRWeb.com packages, I can offer the Advanced package for just $100 and the premium package for $200. Check out the link below for reviews of fellow warriors and more info:

The idea is to get diverse backlinks as well as traffic.

I think the best solution is to use a mixture of services to garner diverse backlinks. Perhaps PRWeb on one press relaase, Newswire.ca on another press release...

How much is PR web? I saw the OP mentioned $200, is there a cheaper service? Or that's the minimum?
