I've never done much in the way of local SEO because it didn't apply to me but I was thinking about it and wondering from those who know far more than I do about it.

Is it any more complicated or advanced than adding your location to the as part of the keyword which you're targeting and then performing the exact same steps as you would link building wise for doing it without the amendment of the locale to the search phrase?

One tip I can provide and you will see this throughout the forum, search "local SEO" and the first guy, Andrew Shotland... hes pretty educated in local. He has a guide that works. For harder local words like "Los Angeles Dentist" or something you would need to do a backlink campaign like you are talking about though.

I really enjoy Andrew Shotland's blog as well as David Mihm's. It is definitely an art and a science. I am contributing to a blog on Local Search Optimization (LSO) tactics and strategies for small businesses for a new company called Local Market Launch. Knowing which portals to submit to and maintaining a strategy that's consistent month over month for citation monitoring and building is key. When a customer mentions your business it can be very valuable to your organic SEO picture in local search results. There are definitely strategies for generating local reviews that work better than others. Incentives are important but the key is the reviews are authentic and customers are aware of your presence on the portals to be able to do this.

The Most regional business owners have no idea about regional SEO, and I'm not being unkind. The scenery on Local SEO has been modifying, so quickly that most companies who claim to be professionals in regional seo are mostly also confused. Whether by style or by failing of style, Google keeps their methods a key.

Roughly there is too things, creating pages based on location so you have to put location name, city name, address etc...

And creating backlinks on local domain extensions and other sites which are related to that location.
