I am having a hard time getting targeted ads on my niche site! The keyword I am ranking for is "high" competition according to the google keyword tool and when I type in my keyword on google there are tons of great targeted ads on the top and sides. However, on my web site the ads arent very targeted at all. It is a wordpress site. I have already turned off the user specific ads in my adsense account. Any one have any tips on how I can get more targeted ads? Does using <!-- google_ad_section_start --> code help and if so where do I put this?

Thanks so much !

    you need to pay attention on your blog keyword density,
    google ads would look into that to display the ads

      Thanks for the reply. They keyword density is pretty good. I made sure that I used it often along with related keywords. Do you have any experience with using code to better target adsense ads? such as <!-- google_ad_section_start --> Or are there any wp plugins that help you better target ads ?

    I am having the exact same problem. My site targets compensation claims and the articles are quite well optimised for the keyword.

    However my site is displaying breakdown adverts and road traffic ads...

    @febbelli you put the markers around your content, meaning the article itself and not the whole page:

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->
    Article Title

    Article content, lorem ipsum, etc...
    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    You probably can modify your site templates so they include this on every page where the content goes.

      It takes up to 6 months for it to be picked up and implemented by Google crawlers and unless your page has a bunch of variable content, and over 500 word block of content to include in the tags, there really is no need for it.

      Most pages are about a single topic anyway and optimized for that content. And, for most people, 500-1000 words will pretty much be the entire content block on that page.

      Fitting 100-300 words in those tags will not do much for your optimization. I suggest learning correct on-site optimization instead. But don't over optimize, as that is something Google is penalizing with their new update.

      For OP, the reason you may not be seeing relevant ads is you may have interest-based ads turned on, which shows ads based on your browsing history.
      And remember that the ads you see are not the same as the ads that other visitors see.

        You should concentrate on the meta tags
        and to pick 1 or 2 long tail search terms for the page optimization.

        The search terms should be related and very descriptive, i.e. they
        should include a promise about the page content.

        The title is the most important one, where
        your main search term should be in the beginning
        or to start the title.

        In many cases the webmaster has to test several alternatives, before
        he finds the working one and before Google will place
        the related ads on the page.
