Ad Relevance - Adsense

I'm trying to figure out how to get more relevant Adsense ads to show up on my site. I am using All in one SEO, with solid keywords and keyword density. Keywords appear in article title, and WP post tags.

I've added code for section targeting but it doesn't seem to be working.

Here's the problem:

My fictitious niche is "Natural ARTHRITIS treatments". I have an exact match domain.

Early on, my ads were arthritis related and I had decent CTR. But the more articles I post, the less relevant my ads are becoming. This is true even though I am still using a form of "arthritis" as a main keyword for each article.

I don't want to post 20 articles saying the same thing twenty different ways. It's a useless website for visitors. So each of my articles talks about arthritis in a different way.

I've now got seven articles posted, and there are no arthritis ads appearing and my CTR has plummeted down to practically nothing.

All of the ads are dancing around the topic arthritis (other forms of joint pain), but nothing directly on topic.

80% of the ads appearing site wide are about one single (non-arthritis related) ailment that was mentioned in one paragraph in one article.

The problem isn't article to article, it's sitewide. The same ads are appearing for all articles.

Like I've said, I've added section targeting code to the "single post.php" file.

Is there something else I can do?

I was going to post the EXACT same thing. I never had this problem. I have a blog and website that are pretty targeted and never had a problem with irrelevant Adsense ads but now it is a real problem. Anyone else having these issues?

Yeah, I posted a similar thread about this a few months ago. My highest earning site's homepage all of sudden started showing irrelevant ads after months of being up.

I've tried everything I could think of and did everything everyone has suggested but it still hasn't been fixed.

I tried Chitika on it but it wasn't the same as Adsense.

I came to the conclusion that my homepage was restricted or something by Adsense. It probably wasn't turning clicks into sales for the advertisers.

I took out the ads from the homepage and currently I'm creating more pages on the site and ranking them to hopefully make up for the lost income.

My ads are not totally irrelevant. They are only semi-relevant.

I can type in my main keyword in google search and see plenty of relevant ads. But they no longer appear on my site.

(EXAMPLE) My (made up niche) is arthritis and all of my articles are about arthritis. But the ads appearing are for headaches, backaches, and all kinds of random pain related ailments.

In one of my articles I made the comparison between arthritis and fibromyalsia. Even though I used the word fibromyalgia only once, my entire site is now running over with fibromyalgia ads. (80% of the ads appearing across all 10 of my articles are fibromyalgia ads).

I've doubles checked my keywords. sitewide, post wide, and ALL IN ONE SEO.

I'm just not sure how to get the robots to pick up on my keywords.

Look! No links in my signature. This means I actually have something useful to say. I'm not just posting to be posting...

        Try this...

Login to your Google Adsense account and go to "Allow & Block Ads". Now click on advanced settings and disable the "Ads based on user interest categories are allowed to show. Visitation information from my sites may be used to help create interest categories" setting.

        Hope this helps

        Cheers,
        Gordon

These days adsense ads are served based on:
    1) Of course your on-page content including meta tags, h1, bold words, etc.

    2) But google's relying much more on "what" the visitor has earlier clicked on, or surfed. Meaning if I have just clicked on an adsense sports shoe ad on another website, and I come to your arthritis website, even if its nowhere near related to shoes, there's a big chance google may still show me the same advertiser's ad.

    Why? Repeat exposure converts better.

    3) Remember, bidding for high $ words like insurance, arthritis WILL have some clever advertisers who may have selectively targeted their placements. Junk MFA site (i dont mean yours specifically, just saying in general) is obviously a no-no for such premium advertisers.

So my advice these days is, since google is showing repeat ads and getting more personal, its best to target the medium paying keywords, instead of going for the high $ ones...

I am having the same issues for one of my
      article directory sites.

Cost per click is extremely low, even though
I have been blocking many low paying
      ads.

No matter what I have tried to do, I cannot
target high paying ads on my pages.

It is really frustrating, because my site
      gets massive traffic.

Section targeting can be a good way to make ads more relevant.
You can also look into blocking specific advertisers.

Chances are the competition for the keyword in adwords isn't as high as it once was

There are probably less advertisers targeting the specific keyword which will cause other ads to show
