Which way to go when building an authority site?

I am in the process of setting up 20-30 authority sites for different niches. I will use Wordpress for all of them but what is the best way to set it up?

I have a few options:

1: Change my homepage to a static page
2: Sticky my 1st post

In case of changing the homepage to a static page, new posts will not be shown on the homepage anymore. Only in the "recent post" widget.

What would you do?

    There's no difference for SEO except for how you structure the content itself.

    In other words, if your best, most well targeted post is stickied to the first page, that is just as good as a static home page.
