Internal Linking Question

My question is this: if on a small site of say 20 pages or less, you have each individual page listed in the sidebar (divided into categories) that shows up on every page, does this count as sufficient internal linking?

I also have a smattering of links to other pages in the body in places where it is really appropriate to the content, but am concerned about overdoing it with links.

What about at the bottom of the homepage having a list of all the pages? Is this too much if they the pages are shown in the sidebar?

Since everything about external links seems kind of scary right now with the demise of BMR, I want to make sure I'm doing the internal linking correctly.

I think what I'm aiming for is called a virtual silo, but I'm not really sure....

    catherine....
    checked out your "nice feet!"

what you have is about just right.....
the internal links should be contextual links and kinda like anchor text to another page. (kinda like what you have)

i have just answered a similar post and recommended a free plugin that will do the internal linking for you (correctly)

    it is "SEO Smat Links"

Google does not like more than 50-100 links on page
for the visitor experience. There is no reason to
not put a side menu with all 20 articles linked on each page.

That's how it's done. Internal links rule!

My theory is different. let's think about it from google perspective.
what does internal linking tells us?
well, I guess it tells us what page on the website is more important than others.

on amazon for example, you will have a link to the main page from every single page of the website, so this will be the most important page.

next, you have the main categories. you will find a link from the main page to each one of them + you will find links to each one of them from the related sub-categories.

last, you can will have an ordinary product page on amazon. the only link it will get is from the sub-category.

So now all of the backlinks juice will pass thru the website's internal links and give the most juice to the main page, than the categories, than product pages.

If you will have the same amount of internal links to each of the pages and on any page on your site, it will probably have almost no effect, because to google eyes all of the pages on your site are equal.

choose your most important page, and make the most internal links pointing to it.
you can link to other pages, but keep it on minimum, unless it's an important page.

when I build a niche I Just link to the main page from each one of the secondary articles on my site. It gives a great boost in SERP for the keyword I try to target.
