    Try to avoid a footprint. Vary the anchor texts. Avoid doubling up links to the same site in the same article. Use a lot of different services/locations instead of putting all your eggs in one basket.

    I've been having good success with a combination of Link Authority, Voltrank, and Postrunner for networks/automated links. Then hand build 2.0s that I backlink for higher quality links to the main site and real forum posts and comments.

    The key is devirsification. The more sorts of links you have, the better your chanes are of surviving any major Google cahges. Also, the more powerful your link portfolio lookes like to the SEs.

    Stick with the best, tried and tested practices and don't chase the newsest crazes and useless ideas:

    1, Forum Posting
    2, Blog Commenting
    3, Article Marketing
    4, Directories
    5, Yahoo Anserws
    6, Link Exchanges

    Those are the most common ones, but that's for a reason: They actually work in the long run!

    Best link building strategy? From Google webmaster guidelines: "AVOID LINKING TO BAD NEIGHBORHOODS". Somebody here gave some methods of link building and that's not bad.

    The bad thing is that if you just continue to build links from crappy resources. It will surely waste your time. So What I suggested you to do is to go back to the easy strategies like mixing anchor texts, getting contextual links from articles or blogs or other resources.
