They both have their flaws. You'll also find both overload their servers.

EDIT: While HG has great support, it IS NOT what it used to be.

I like Hawkhost for shared hosting. It's still shared hosting, but you can get 50% off coupons that make a year's hosting with unlimited add-on domains only $20.

HostGator needs IPv6 I've also spoke to some ex employees, they said only thing hostgator cares about is their brand, not their employees or customers, but idk.

well i have hosted 100+ clients on gator since 5 years , never used any other host after that

    - Awesome on Service
    - Restoration of service is fast
    - Ticket help is good
    - Their response has deteriorated in terms of quality in last one year

I tried JustHost and didn't like them at all. I had a few server issues and didn't get very good support plus they billed me yearly whereas HostGator bills me monthly.

I would definitely recommend HostGator over JustHost.

There's a set of problems that we all face when trying to find the best host.

      1) Most folks have not tried very many hosts. They find one that works for them and stick with it. This means that they will recommend what is working for them. We all NEED "A" versus "B" versus "C" and a promise that OUR results will match the choices. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way.

      2) Most folks don't have enough sites even on the hosting company that is working for them to really get a full picture of the hosting company. One person's gem can be another person's problem -- especially with shared hosting because the nature of the beast is that your site's performance is dependent on the number of other sites on the same box AND how busy they are. If they get successful, you can have real problems.

      3) It is a slippery, always changing blob. The shared hosting companies do their best, moving servers around, rebalancing the loads, etc. But what if they decide that they can make more money by just slightly adding to how much they are asking from each piece of hardware? Again, most folks would probably never notice, and a few would get poor performance.

      4) You can get a dedicated box, but you are still at the mercy of their network bandwidth. Typically not as variable as shared hosting, but still variable. There's a reason folks like RackSpace charge (and get) big bucks for what seems like the same service. They make solid guarantees about the performance, and they have paid for the giant infrastructure costs involved in solid multi-homed hosting with redundant networks and banks of diesel generators, etc.

      5) I have yet to find a good multi-host review site. I haven't given up hope, but the ones I've seen are either shills for a particular hosting company, or suffer from the same issues I mentioned earlier if they try to have folks vote.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but the truth is that if you really want guaranteed great performance, you end up having to pay a lot more for it.

P.S. In my limited experience, I've hosted a handful of sites on GoDaddy, DreamHost, and GatorHost. The best for my sites has been GatorHost.

Hi Leo, I agree with you all the way. i may not of had the time to try out every host out there. But I have tried a handful of the big names: Godaddy, Bluehost, Justhost, HostGator, etc. And I can easily say that Ive had the best experiences using host gator for my websites and landing pages.

Neither of them as their servers are overloaded. If you are planning to buy shared hosting then your site is definitely going to be very slow as they have overloaded the number of users per server. I would rather advise to go for a lil less famous or some smaller company.

There is no single host that is best for every website. You need to know the requirements of your website and choose the right kind of web hosting company for your websites.

host X could be the best host in shared services but it won't be a good option for reseller hosting, in the same way host Y is the best host for VPS but it can't be a good solution for shared hosting.

for example, Godaddy could be a good registrar but its not the best host out there.

A small website with few hundreds or couple of thousands visits can stay on any reasonable hosting company without any problem paying far less than hostgator or any of the popular brand. The real test begins when you have good traffic or you need an advance level task.

A single host can't be a best host for different types of web hosting. you have to find the best host for your requirements. For example, hostgator is the best host for resellers but they are not the best vps or dedicated server provider. Godaddy, namecheap and name.com could be good domain registrars but they can't be the best hosts.

Conclusion: don't follow the hype and majority, know your requirements and find the appropriate solution. Avoid putting all of your eggs in one bucket, Never use a single host for all of your websites, try using different hosts to enjoy some real offers and safety.

To your question, hostgator is far more better than justhost!

There are loads of bad reviews about Justhost out there but I found them OK, it's just when you overload their servers they close you down, give you beef and force pricey dedi servers on to you where as you can set up warnings on Hostgator with some packages, they also have better mid and high end VPS for when you're expanding. If I had to choose then it would be Hostgator even though it's x3 the price, the support is far better, if you need something installing it will be done within an hour, having said that some of my sites have had a lot of down time recently.

Host Gator has recently been sold, so out with the old end with the new. If this new company starts trying to squeeze profits you could see service here start to deteriorate especially for those on shared servers.

Like many have said when deciding on a hosting platform you have many variable to consider and price is not the only option. I have tested many and some of my best finds are ones that are shared servers with limited data plans. Do not believe the hype about unlimited data it is not TRUE!!!
