Categories within Category with Wordpress, possible?

I'm a bit of a wordpress noob so I was wondering, is there a way to create categories inside categories with WordPress?
I want to have a structure that allows me to have 1000 categories, 10 main ones, 10 sub ones, and 10 sub sub ones. And so that each post that I make will end up in the category that I chose and at the same time first lands on the homepage.
Is this possible?
