So my site is now 6th in google for its main keyword but I really want it in the top 3 (obviously 1 would be nice)

I've been doing a lot of article marketing to get this far, I have 4 web 2.0 blogs that i have 5 articles each pointing to my site (and I've UAW'd each of those), then i've submitted 5 articles to as many directories as possible.

I've added google +1 and facebook like buttons and have 1 +1 and 50 likes so far but haven't bought any


Just want to know if I'm missing anything. I could make a video if that helps...or something else entirely. I've read (and I believe) that a varied and natural looking strategy is best so i don't want to just continue getting loads of links from the same pr0 pages

    Good job so far!

    I actually just gave this advice in another thread, but build some linkbait and blast it out on facebook, twitter, etc. Something related to your topic, but viral-worthy (controversial, funny, or otherwise). You could also try a general press release about your site to prweb and others. Guest posting? Related blog comments (the real kind, not mass).

    I'm thinking my niche is too specific to be viral, its an educational site helping people who are studying one book in particular. I'll give it a go anyway thanks for the advice.

    Again with the blog posting i can't find anything that is related...nothing really out there about my niche but i'll have another look.

      Doesn't have to be related as in the exact same thing you are doing, relevant blogs for your category could be educational ones, how to study, reading, etc to name a few

    I think one of the main points many tend to forget about when looking to push you site into the top 3 is fresh, unique content going onto to your own site on a fairly regular basis. If you want to out rank the top, you need to make your site into an authority over theirs, hence the need for fresh content on at least a semi regular basic. You seem to be covering the other parts pretty well, keep it up! :-)

    I've been adding things quite a lot because I'm still putting the site together but i don't want to be doing that forever. All the other sites at the top are the same as they were years ago when i studied the book in highschool. They are big names though. About has the top 2 spaces, schmoop and spark notes the next 2 slots. These site have been around for years. Are they beatable.

    I don't want to brag but i think my site's content is a lot better, more helpful, more specific, better organized, different features.

    I'll try to add more content and find some broadly relevant blogs

    I like what oyu have done. I have had some success with guest posting to get over that final hurdle and get those last few jumps in the rankings.

    Another thing tha tI have had a lot of success with lately is Wiki links. Be careful not to over do it though as a huge number of wiki links could potentially look unnatural.

    does anyone have or know of a guide to how to best leverage facebook twitter or youtube for seo. I am completely neglecting them at the moment and i feel they should be big players. I could easily create videos for my site that would add a lot of value (should have done them already to be honest but never mind) and after a bit of thinking have come up with a few idea for linkbate, not sure they have mass appeal but good for my niche.

      I can definitely say that youtube (not only youtube though, all video sites) look great both on your site, and used as links pointing toward your site. I've seen some results that kind of surprised me in terms of SERP jumps. I still haven't been able to find a reliable video-links service, and have looked at different platforms to develop one myself with no luck so far.
