What back-linking strategy do you use?

For the better part of the last two years, I've completed neglected back-linking strategies and just concentrated on good content and links coming back to me naturally. However, after reading a lot of information and starting a new, more niche oriented website geared towards people attending United States Marine OCS, I've changed my ways.

I've just recently begun to implement Pat Flynn's "The Backlinking Strategy That Works". So far, I haven't seen much results for my efforts, but good things come to those who wait! I'd like to take this time to start an open discussion as to what back-linking strategies you utilize for your websites.

If you have any deep secret specifics, you obviously don't have to share, but I'd love to hear what has made other people successful! Thanks for sharing, look forward to hearing back from you all.

    There're some points that I disagree with Smartpassiveincome, my recommendation is stick with Whitehat-SEO and forgot all other link spamming techniques because sooner or later, SE will know about it and all of your hard works gone gone gone....

      What part of the Smart Passive Income strategy do you consider to be Black-Hat? The article spinning? Directory submission to Web 2.0 properties?

        I think:
        Directory submission is Ok (but most of them are low quality website)
        Web 2.0 properties is Ok as long as you still providing useful content here. (But not sure what happen when these site gone)

        At this time, I stick with blog commenting, guest posting, give a way free stuff for link building.

          In many cases the black hat strategies will bring
          nice results, good rankings and thus a strong visitor flow.

          But, but...

          Google has improved it`s ways to identify these sites and blogs
          and the penalty is sitewise, i.e. if even one page is against their
          rules, they will drop the rankings of the whole site.

          I wonder, why people do use these black hat tricks,
          which are like internet marketing doping,
          because we have so many white hat ones available?

          The article writing and submission, blog comment, forum posting,
          social site submission, social bookmark, video, just to mention some,
          which offer enough variety for a strong link building.

          And what about the quality aspect?

          The quantity will lose to the quality,
          so the best way is to identify a couple of high page rank,
          related sites or blogs and to ask a permission to submit a link.

          That requires work, but is worth that.

    SPI and other successful IMers who have been blogging about their adsense sites have been relying heavily on blog networks like UAW and BMR, too.

      If you check out the recent post, Pat Flynn actually informed his visitors to stop using both UAW (because it doesn't work as well as it used to) and BMR (because Google has de-indexed it).

      I'm curious as to what step Pat will take next to make up for the lack of UAW and BMR in his strategy, or he'll just leave the void as is.

          Hi,

          There are five main tasks to implement systematically whether to build quality backlinks for your blog / website:

          1. Create quality content;
          2. Submit your blog to directories related;
          3. Submit new content to the blog Social bookmarks;
          4. Comment on blogs, websites and related forums;
          5. Get links to the various pages of the blog / site.

    Ah , Pat flynns linking strategy does work but may take a longer period of time to see results. How long did you wait before you decide his link strategy wasn't working ?

    There are literally tonnes of ways to get links, I'm talking link baiting to blog commenting to guest posting. I doubt any true link builders will give up the "secret-sauce" but there is a plethora of resources out there.

    I personally use Ontolo and SeoMoz open site explorer when im prospecting for links. Maybe other link builders can chime in ?

    I'm having good success with a combination of just about everything. Postrunner, Voltrank, and Link Authority are some of the main "programs" I use. But I make use of anything free (2.0s, article directories, wikis, ect).

    yes, MBR's blog network has de-indexed, then you should try to build a small private blog network too. just continue doing basic link building like directory submission, social bookmarking and also doing free blogs on web.20(squidoo,blogspot etc..).. circular link wheel is not effective today

    Personally I prefer backlink quality to backlink quantity, so most of my sites don't have many backlinks. Guest post, e-book, forum thread and article submitting, I have to say these methods works well for me.

    That particular backlinking strategy is actually an example of simple tier linking strategy. He just used other terms for tiers 1 and 2. Actually you can even add another layer to it and so on. For the links to push those layers, you can also add some rss submissions and links from other resources to add more link juice.

    That is another way of making a particular link to have more quality (if it is done properly).

      After all the private blog deindexing I am still having great success, I saw a small drop in rankings for 2 clients but by a miracle they both came back stronger then they were before, pretty amazing, and my own site as well btw.

      The linkbuilding that I do:

      - 25 Social Bookmarks
      - 50 Web2.0 submissions
      - Dofollow blogcomments high PR low OBL

      Article distribution to:

      - High PR society (yes they took a big hit but are rebuilding the network)
      - My Article Network
      - Authority Link Network (they also took a big hit of 5k sites deindexed but they have 20k sites so)
      - Unique Article Wizard
      - Article Ranks
      - Traffic Kaboom
      - Article Marketing Automation
      - Article Marketing Robot

      As you can see I don't rely on 1 article network but instead I spread the risk bigtime.

      That's it, and it still works out great, at the moment I am working on another client (since 2 weeks) actually right before all the deindexing started, and today I saw him jump up in the Serps at page 1 for all 6 of his keywords (all easy ones though).

        That seems like a ton of steps you take for SEO, do you do that all yourself or participate in some kind of outsourcing?

    nik0,

    For your web 2.0 sites, do you post the same or spinned articles there?

    Do you use social signals?

    Are you using automated programs like senuke to do all the above?

    So what is black hat and what is white hat , its relative i guess.

    doing all white hat using a automated tool is blackhat ?
    Linkbuilding itself is blackhat ?

    When I'm link building, what's actually at the front of all things in my mind is the relationship building. I know it's going to take some time before some people would accept you, but once that they consider you as someone who has a good reputation in your respective niche, the chances of them letting you create backlinks on their site OR them making those backlinks for you will be higher.
