Interest-based Ads preference for Adsense...on or off?

I've been seeing some irrelevant ads to my niche sites when I visit them. I see ads on there for things I was searching a moment before. Like if the site is say for example about insurance I get maybe 1 or 2 ads about insurance and the other two ads are about adsense, ITT college, etc....really irrelevant ads that has nothing to do with the page. Before all the ads were dead on even if you scrolled through the set of 4 ads that show up. I don't know what happened recently that caused this and really killed my CTR on some of my sites.

So I was reading that to minimize this we should turn off the Interest-based Ads preference in our account. So I did that at end of January and in February my earnings took a big hit (30% less earnings) even though I had much better traffic. So I don't know if I should go back and leave it on again and see what happens.

So should I turn that back on or leave it off? Those that rely on Adsense income do you guys have it off or on?

For most of my sites, I leave it on. Generally, if your site has a very high bounce rate (80%+) you keep it on.

But don't take mine or anybody's else word for it. You can test this yourself.
Under "Performance Reports", there's a section for "Targeting Types". Compare the performance of the interest-based ads vs contextual and placement.

Specifically you look at CPC and CTR. I suggest considering about a week or 1 month's worth of data before deciding. And then re-visit and compare again every few month.
