Best SEO techniques right now? (opinions)

I am promoting a new product and I want to try some techniques I haven't used before.

Currently I use:
- Web 2.0 linking
- Forum posting
- Blog Commenting
- UAW (discontinued, many seem to think it might be useless now)

Something I have been looking at is Press Releases. I have never done it, but it makes a lot of sense from an SEO standpoint for natural link building.

Are there any other techniques I might want to use that I'm missing and what do you think are the most effective methods right now (so I can focus my time best)?

Thank you for your help!

Press Release websites are no magic bullet. They fall off the main page fast and get buried along with all the other crap.

It sounds like you're only interested in 'link building' recipe-driven approaches to SEO. Is there a reason for that?

I'm just trying to do as many effective techniques as I can. I don't really care what I'm doing, but I'm just trying to use the most effective and efficient methods I can with my time. I definitely want to diversify.

The methods I listed are the only ones I am familiar with and they have given me some success (Top 5 on 5 keywords giving me about 200 uniques/day). Now I am starting a new section of my site that ties in and I am looking to rank on new keywords and try to drive my traffic up to 1,000+ visits/day.

I already used the techniques I know will give me some success, but I am looking to try some new things to help my search engine rankings. I just want to make sure the new things I try are worth the time I'm spending on them.

I'm also starting to build social media into the picture, but I'm not sure that is considered a part of SEO, is it? I know that some people say social media can have a drastic effect on rankings while others say it is irrelevant. I'm going to do it regardless for the targeted traffic, but my feeling is that over time social media will become more and more relevant in rankings if 'user experience' is the name of the game.

          Josh,

put your energy into the cause of natural links - valued content. Link building is dangerous at the moment and diversity will not save you in the long run.

Improve your skill with on page SEO and aim to give visitors something useful and you'll be fine. Give visitors something outstanding and you'll be flying

Non natural link building can help, but to be effective long term you have to approach it in a watering down beer manner i.e. your backlinks should be mainly natural but a few bought links mixed in will probably pass.

    Diversity.

Most people that are running into problems right now are those that relied on just one method of link building.

All of your ideas will work fine as long as you're getting multiple types of backlinks from different sources.

I do everything manually. I used UAW for a while and it was getting me some traffic, but I felt like the links it was getting me probably weren't doing anything for my rankings.

Besides, I'm still new to this. I want to understand what is going on, how effective something is, and whether I want to do it or not before I pay someone else to do it.

What you have listed is Great!

    Forum Profiles
    Web 2.0 Profiles
    Social Networking
    Social Bookmarking
    Press Releases
    Article Marketing
    Video Marketing
    PDF Marketing
    Blog Commenting
    Guest Posting
    Power Point Slide Shows
    RSS Feeds and
    so-on.

Do them all, because the key here is CONSISTENCY and definitely DIVERSITY when you build backlinks.

Some of the above techniques work better than others, and some you can do away with, though I use them all because it's what Google is looking for, along with QUALITY UNIQUE content when it comes to ranking a site.

Basically, its going to come down to Trial and Error for you, but as far as immediate traffic goes, a Press Release can go a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way.

Although I'm a relative newbie with SEO and stuff like this I totally agree with jasonB. There is the old proverb "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" !

I'd say though social bookmarking/networking is something Google likes at the moment.

Thanks for all your input, I really do appreciate it.

Do you think there is anything wrong with using something automatic for a portion of your SEO like using a program or 2 along with manual techniques?

Do you think this would be advantageous, irrelevant, or detrimental?

Remember it is not just consistency and diversity in where the links are that is important, you should also have diversity in anchor text and diversity in the target URL. Having the same keywords in your anchor text or having all links point to your home page is not natural.

Search engine optimization (SEO) means to do things off site to improve your sites search engine rankings. Offsite initiatives will enhance your rankings and to build up more links to improve your Google Page Rank. This entails link building, the acquisition of many relevant links from related websites.

Make sure to consider the following aspects in order to achieve successful SEO:
    • Get best types of links from trusted sources such as newspapers (article websites) and some of the top notch directories such as dmoz and Yahoo. In addition, gaining links from .EDU websites
    • Grow your community using Social Networking Sites: In order to manage your online reputation.
    • Blogging and Forum posting
    • Link baiting and exchange: With both you can increase your link popularity.
    • Photo Sharing: Make public and share your website's pictures.
    • Video Promotions : You can publish/share your product videos, expert opinions, and reviews of your product and make them public in YouTube, Metacafe, Dailymotion, etc.
    • Business Reviews : Write reviews about others businesses or ask your friends/clients to write a review of your business
    • Local Listings & Yellow Pages : Make your website local so that search engines can easily view your website and fetch the content.
    • Article Submission : Write articles of your own and submit them to popular article sites like Ezine, Go Articles, Now Public, Buzzle, etc.
    • Submissions: Try some classifieds submissions to advertise your products for free.
    • Social Shopping Network : This is a good strategy for advertising and easily branding your products for free if you have your own e-commerce website.
    • Answers: Participate in Answers by asking and answering relevant questions and placing a link to your website in the source section if you have useful and relevant info on your site relating to the topic at hand.
    • CSS, W3C & RSS Directories Submission: If you have a web design site or offer services related to web design, submit your website to CSS and W3C website directories which may drive traffic towards your website.
    • Widget and Gadget Development: Applications on your blog/website or using popular social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace to help you to increase your branding and website visits.
    • PPC Ad Campaign: This is a strategy using your targeted keywords. But, here you need to pay to drive more traffic towards your website through PPC.

Interesting discussion about offsite links, most of which I would agree with. The one big thing I would disagree with is that SEO is limited to ONLY things done off-site, i.e. linking.

I would say that SEO includes ANYTHING you do to improve your traffic coming from the search engines. Using a combination of techniques will multiply their effectiveness. Our real goal should not be to just be on page one of Google -- our real goal is to drive quality targeted traffic to our sites!

Basic site-wide items such as the URL for the domain and the speed of the site also count. On-page items such as the page title, the meta description, careful keyword targeting and reasonable use of the keyword and associated LSI keywords are also important.

I've seen local long-tail sites rank #1 just because of their domain URL. I've seen pages pop to page one once they were made "google friendly" such that googlebot could easily identify what the page was about. I've seen links quadruple in clicks because of the page title and meta description getting fixed.

Always, but especially these days, Google is looking for content and linking patterns that look "natural." This translates into using a wide variety of linking strategies. However, while Google will slap you down hard for making pages stuffed with keywords that don't read naturally and are not helpful, making your site clean and your keyword associations obvious will help your rankings as well.

a or b or c or d? I choose all of the above.

You did not include using social networks and using top bookmarking sites like digg, stumbleupon or delicious. Though these websites are not the prime ones when it comes to bringing a site to the top of search engines, it still good to share something interesting to other users.

Yes, you will target users. In this way, if they find your post/share interesting, they might share it too to other networks or to some other communities that are related to your niche and you have a good chance of getting good quality links.

Since you're promoting a new product, then press release marketing can drive good traffic to your site, because you'd want to announce to your target audience the launch of your new product and the benefits it can offer them for their relevant needs and problems...

Just continue what you're doing, monitor the results you get from such campaigns, and improve your campaigns based on those results. I suggest giving more emphasis on forum and blog marketing as an effective means to drive good traffic to your site, rather than these methods as a means to get onpage high PR backlinks. This means establish your reputation as a friendly, expert source of useful and relevant content, info, advice, services and products offering benefits not found elsewhere in these contextually relevant, high authority Web forums and blogs with large membership and readership bases comprised of your target audience...

Content syndication is also an effective method for getting good traffic as well as high PR onpage backlinks in contextually relevant, high authority sites. This means contact owners of contextually relevant, high authority sites, Web forums and blogs with large membership, readership and mailing list subscriber bases. Offer them your content and tell them about the benefits their viewers can gain from your content. Also tell them that they can syndicate your content on their sites or for their mailing list content, in exchange for banner ads or onpage text links pointing to pages of your site offering supplemental content with benefits not found elsewhere nor in your syndicated content...

Since you need good buyer traffic as soon as possible right after launching your product, and having your pages ranking as top results in Google for your target keywords takes time, then I suggest PPC advertising. You can get free PPC advertising by acquiring hosting plans from companies offering free $100 or more of free Google Adwords PPC credits and $50 or more of free Yahoo! PPC credits. There are also Facebook PPC coupon codes for new Facebook accounts that can give you up to $250 of free Facebook PPC credits...

You can go to Google, enter your target keywords, take note of the top page results under contextually relevant, high authority sites with large membership, readership and mailing list subscriber bases. Talk to the owners of those sites. Negotiate an arrangement where you can get banner ads or onpage text links in those top ranking pages, in exchange for money via PPC/PPV/PPM or unique content...

Guest blogging is also a good way to get high PR onpage backlinks in contextually relevant, high authority sites. A lot of blog owners in relevant niches are looking for unique content that they can present to their viewers to help them with their relevant needs and problems. You can tell them that you can develop unique content for their viewers, in exchange for banner ads and onpage text links pointing to pages of your site with supplemental info offering benefits not found elsewhere nor in your guest posts...

As I said above, solo email ads can help you get good buyer traffic. Talk to owners of contextually relevant, high authority sites with large membership, readership and mailing list subscriber bases. Negotiate an arrangement with them, where you can get banner ads and text links pointing to pages of your site with supplemental info not found elsewhere, in exchange for money via PPC/PPV/PPM or unique content for them...

You can also implement affiliate product marketing campaigns. This means develop a product useful for satisfying the relevant immediate needs and solving the related urgent problems of your target audience that they can neither satisfy nor solve on their own. Integrate your mailing list subscription process into the sales page on your site for this product, so your product buyers can opt-in as your mailing list subscribers. Then, post this product as an affiliate product in affiliate networks. Offer a 90% or more commissions per sale percentage, so you can entice more people to become your affiliates. They will in turn promote this product for you, aswell as drive more traffic to your site and populate your mailing list subscriber base with buyer traffic for you. You can also gain good, natural backlinks with this method, since your affiliates will link to your relevant presell content pages and homepage. You can use the methods I mentioned here to also promote this product and your affiliate signup page in those affiliate networks...

    Hope this helps...

You guys see how many methods and how complicated SEO is!? That's why I spent years trying to figure it all out only to have panda kick my ass. Now I'm spending my time on ppc/ppv/media that will actually get traffic...and just learning to focus that traffic on high converting landing pages where the visitor only has 1 thing they can do...buy...not get distracted by having an assload of other navbar tabs & other pages they could visit that only exist to attract traffic via seo. Now I don't have to SEO my headlines or content, I can have them say exactly what I want so my visitor isn't annoyed by me saying the same word over and over in a slightly different way...

The best right now is blog networks. There are some smart networks that didn't get noticed and are working better than ever. The fun part is finding them, they are very low-key... and rightfully so.

As others have said diversification is the key. Web 2.0s are working really well right now as a part of a link pyramid - as are Wikis and article marketing.

Lots of people got very lazy thanks to the quick rankings that were achievable with high PR blog networks. Many people have forgotten that some old techniques still work really well - including link pyramids. Right now I'm using a combination of SENukeX, Article Marketing Robot, Extreme Wiki Poster, Scrapebox and XRumer, with lots of success. I'm hoping to give Linkwheel Bandit a go this week too if I find a spare few hours.

A little note on press releases: if you're going to do one, do it properly! Submitting a press release in SENukeX for example is probably pointless as most of those sites are spammed to death. There are some good press release distribution services about that use professional platforms. They cost a few hundred dollars a month to sign up to - so unless you're distributing loads, it probably works out best to use a press release submission service (most of them write the release for you too!). Don't forget, NEVER spin a press release - it's probably the one time in your SEO career that unique content isn't necessarily best. Unreadable releases are usually deleted pretty swiftly - thus making them a waste of time - so don't spin them!

I did try to link to a good release service over at Traffic Planet, but unfortunately my post count is too low at this time. With a little searching I'm sure you'll find it!

Nice suggestive posting. I actually do social bookmarking, guest blogging, blog commenting, article submission to the article directories, web directory submission, blog directory submission, linkreferral campaigns, forum posting, social media platforms like facebook, twitter, google+ etc to general some natural links and to drive traffic, creating social profiles where i am able to add my website links etc

There are many alternative methods in the off-page seo process. In any method relevancy, quality, originality is the most important thing that any seo person should consider.

The smartest seo strategy to use is what the masses are not doing. Don't do seo the way every body else is doing it.....

Focus on building 2000-3000 word articles to post on your site daily....

If you're using a blog.... Use pages to post articles on the main keywords you are targeting... Next you want to use you post pages to post articles that have anchor text going back to your blog pages that are targeting your main keywords.

Another words build links within your site to other pages on your site. Interlink right on your site...

You can get some pretty good linking power this way... Many people fail to realize this... But the way to get a lot of traffic is simple:

You need a lot of pages on your site to get massive traffic the easy way...

You don't have to kill yourself getting links.... I know what I'm talking about I've been studying and implementing this stuff for a while now....

All you need to do to get a lot of traffic is a lot of pages on your site.... Instead worrying about all these links focus on writing quality content or hirer someone, you can and be sure to build following on tweeter, facebook, google +.

A site with 1,000 pages get more visitors than a site with 20 pages.

There is no magic bullet my friend. You create enough pages you create a lot of traffic with ease.

And if you include interlinking within your site and just making sure you write natural with some keyword focus like just include keyword in your title and may be 1% through your article body that's it...

You can be getting a ton of traffic... There are other strategies but this post is too long already my friend... I think I gave you some good quality information to work with..

Hope it helps... you my friend... just try what I mention I guarantee you it will work...Create a lot of good helpful articles on your site that is very long... People will find you...

I have sites. I did not linking and they get traffic very little but they get traffic. I have other sites that a lot of pages those pages get traffic. Don't underestimate the power of interlink it's really powerful...
