hello, here are some insights you defo want to check out.
Although Google pays the most there are a couple of points to be aware of before you start up.
First - You have to make sure you have good content, there is no point in spending time building something that is going to be useless and that is exactly what your site will be if the adsense team don't approve it. Take some time and build something of value and as long as the adsense team see the content as useful you're onto a winner.
Second - The second thing to be aware of is that if you're using adsense then you're not allowed any other banner or PPC adverts on your site, because Google is a very jealous and controlling partner and does not want to share your ass with anyone!
Third - There is a high risk of being banned by Google without warning and without reason. The worst time this can happen is when you've accumulated a significant amount of money to withdraw and many people get screwed by this. On the other hand many people have made a good living out of adsense and their relationship with Google so don't be perturbed, just be aware.

Besides Google there is also Yahoo and Bing and their requirements are much and such the same, so too are their paying terms. There are also a number of so called 2nd Tier PPC networks that you can join such as 7search, Miva, Admarketplace, Findology etc. They pay a lot less than the big three and also keep you waiting 2 - 3 months to see your return. After the first two or three months you can make steady profit but there are better options for a quick turnaround if that's what you're after.
There are many networks worth getting involved in. Find one that pays out twice a month and then reinvest your income in testing different networks to advertise with because multiple arbitrage models are invaluable due to them paying out four times faster than say Google, for example.
