AdSense Peekaboo on WordPress Site

Hey warriors,

I've been running a quotes site for the past month built on WordPress. I placed AdSense and began seeing several hundred unique visitors a day: all was good!

morningquotes.net

This morning I noticed my visitors were on the up again in Analytics, but AdSense impressions didn't match up. Now the frontpage shows one set of text links, and none of the other three visual/text ads (two in the sidebar, one below posts). The same goes for each category page on the site. Curiously pages (ie: /by-author/) and tag pages (ie: /tag/abraham-lincoln/) show all ads correctly however. Post pages seem random now, some working and some not.

I've tried creating new ads and replacing them, clearing cache, removing plugins and switching to an earlier version of my theme to no avail. Yesterday everything was displaying ads correctly too, hah.

Any insight is most appreciated!

My adsense dashboard is super buggy today. I have about 36 sites tracking and usually about lunch time 1/3 of them get hot. It's showing that I had 5 ad impressions in the last 2 hours. Even at 4:00 AM I get more then 5 ad impressions/ hour.

I think something is wrong, not sure what yet. I will do some digging.

In addition to the impressions and pageviews not matching up, my ads are displaying on and off.

UPDATE: now only my posts show ads, but only show 2 of 3 media/text ads. Categories, front page, search and archives only show the top text links ad. Tag pages only show 1 of the 3 media/text ads (sidebar bottom) plus the text links ad.

    Any ideas?

Dude, that's the craziest thing I've seen.

When I go to your posts, I am seeing all three ads.
TAGS: Only the links - I don't get any media/text ads
FRONT PAGE: same as tags: Only the links - I don't get any media/text ads
    Cat and Search: Same.

I've never seen anything like that.

FYI: When you get this all sorted out, you might want to use "simple Ad Manager" and drop the 300X250 ad in the bottom of each quote. There is a lot of space between where the quote ends and where the ads are. There is no reason for me to ever scoll down that far.

If you use simple ad manager, you can just put a place holder in each post like, [placeholder - 1]. Then you can drop anything you want in there, or not use it at all. It makes it super easy to split test.

If you look t that post, the 468X60 banner under the picture and at the end of the post are place holders. I can either remove the add, or change it. The bottom one I can add side by side 300x250's or one big 386 box. I have over 2800 pages in that blog, and it updates all of them. The sweet part is, if a new CPA offer comes out, I can take out my adsense and drop in a banner and start making money.

Sorry to get off track, but somebody gave me that advice and it made things a lot easier for me.

I have no ideas on why certain pages on your site are blocking others. Sorry

    Hey Capp,

I really like that idea about making the placements easier to swap out. I'll definitely be considering it for this and future sites. You're spot on about the ad placements too. If you check out a single quote page, there should be an image to balance out the ad below comments. I do agree it isn't necessary to make visitors scroll that far though.

UPDATE: Tried to create sidebar templates for each template (category, page, single, index) with different ad codes; no luck.

Checking webmaster tools shows the sites root was blocked this morning with a robots.txt. Someone created a robots.txt disallowing my homepage, leaving ads blocked inadvertently.

I'll be working to secure entry points to eliminate this in the future. It's astounding how many times the site has become compromised at 3AM since getting to the first page for keywords
