Product name keywords vs general keywords for product targeted niche site

Hi everyone,

I am planning my first singular product targeted micro niche site. I will be focusing on one main keyword, and will have anywhere from 3 to 10 different articles on my mini site (using Wordpress as a platform). I may also choose to target a few other keywords in these articles.

I will pick one product, most likely from Clickbank, to promote on this site. My only source of revenue will be from Clickbank - no Adsense.

I do not want to buy a course (like Google Sniper of Bring the Fresh), because I think I know all I need to know about product selection and SEO (both on-site and off-site). However, when it comes time for keyword research, I am having a little trouble.

Should I pick a keyword like "[product name from CB] review", or something like that? Or should I pick a keyword related to the niche? For example, if I was in the weight loss niche, using a keyword like "how to lose weight fast".

The product name related keywords would be better targeted, because people look up reviews for the products before they buy them. But, the amount of people searching for reviews of these branded products is generally much lower than the amount of people searching for the more general niche-related long tail keywords.

Also, if I chose a Clickbank product over a more established physical product (say, from Amazon), the actual branded name for the Clickbank product may not be as well known, so barely any people would be searching for reviews for the actual product name.

For anyone who has made micro niche sites, what has worked best for you?

    i would stay away from brand name domains because there life could short lived as you could get asked to take it down

    a great way to attract buyer traffic is to include the word "best" at the start of your domain

    in the buying cycle process, when people start to use the word best in there searches it means they are in a buying mode or looking for the best type of product etc, ive had good results using it

    i would always choose amazon because people can go on a spending spree and if you sent them then your will get commissions from everything they buy

    someone went on a spending spree a couple months ago and bought a $2000 tv, hd surround sound, speakers, dvd player, leads etc etc and i had a very nice payout from that but my site was about cookers lol

      This is why i would stick with Amazon as correct me if i am wrong but it is 30 day cookies as well so if they go back and purchasing something else the next day then you will also earn from this. With clickbank you will only earn if they buy THAT product. Amazon they can buy anything and you will earn

    If you are looking for the shortest route from looker to buyer then you should seriously consider the keyword that targets buyers best. check the search results for the clickbank product you are planning to promote. Are potential buyers putting that exact keyword in the search engine? are they typing in "clickbank product x"?

    Or are they typing in the keyword phrase that looks for a solution? i.e. "train my dog".

    use the keyword combination that targets what they are looking for and then offer them the solution on your landing page.

    Many popular Clickbank products usually have a refund rate which I can do without so I decided to stick with Amazon. Being physical goods there is hardly a refund ever. Promoting brand names through a domain or PPC may not be allowed but you can choose a product category and append a word like best, review or reviews to it, like suggested above. The main keyword should be an exact match to the product category. There are still niches where exact match domains are available - you just have to look for them.

      Would you suggest one main site for many different products or small sites for say one category cameras?

    Less traffic but much more targeted --> Specific product name keywords

    More traffic but less targeted --> Niche related phrases

    Just because something has more traffic does not mean it will convert well...trust me I made that mistake in the beginning. Go for more targeted traffic it will convert better and use "buyer" keywords.
