Both have the keyword phrase domain, the .com is indexed and the .net appears below it.

I am curious as I would like to try this for a potential client.

Yes, you can! You have to build higher quality links and ensure the onsite SEO is perfect. I have seen tons of .net ranking above .coms. .

business websites mostly ends up with .com and people are used to of it so they first enter .com with url of the site, it slows down the process of becoming up a site. Therefore we prefer .com rather than .net

Why do people ask this question?

And why do people answer it?

      Makes no sense.

Has nothing to do with anything stated.

Nobody knows you, your history, your skill,
the other site's history, their authority,
      their love by google,....NOTHING.

The question cannot be answered, but rest
assured. It has NOTHING to do with .net or
      .com.

    Absolutely not.
.com's are unbeatable. Anything else that is not an exact match and is not a .com is only, at best, competing for 2nd place rankings.

IMO there is not any difference between .com and .net domains and both of them can rank in top results. If you optimize a ,net domain well, of course you see it on top results. Be sure about it.
