does google's search recognize acronyms?

i'm looking to create and development a website based around facebook. i can't really seem to find any domains worth having that'll support me when it comes to SEO, so i was wondering if any of you marketing veterans knows anything about google's search recognizing acronyms.
for a specific example, would it be a wise idea to instead of using "facebook" in the domain name, use "fb" instead?
