Best way to get better targeted ads with Adsense

Hi all,

What are some people's strategies for getting the best targeted ads with Adsense?

So far, I haven't been that impressed with the ads Google picks based on analyzing the post content. Any suggestions or thoughts on how to improve the click through would be appreciated.

I have heard some ideas like:

1. Only having google analyse specific parts of the post content
2. Manually blocking ads that you don't like (and eventually things get better targeted).

Others?

Thanks.

Pick a niche where there are lots of advertisers. Sorry that won't help in your current situation but something to think about in the future. Some niches simply don't have a lot of relevant ad options no matter what you do to better optimize.

If the ads aren't relevant and aren't getting clicked try something else. Stick an Amazon product in that spot. Try another network. Contact companies who might be interested in advertising on your site.

Niche is set, so that isn't changable (its a business).

It looks like I may have to go custom ads instead of adsense as it really looks like adsense doesn't have a lot to show in the niche...

I guess another network might work...

Some of the words you use can trigger some larger Adwords keywords that have nothing to do with your site. For instance, if my site was about soccer, and I used the term soccer education, soccer school, going to university and playing on your college team, etc... that may trigger a bunch of ads for universities and colleges that have nothing to do with soccer.

Remember that the ads you see when you view your site are not the same ads that others see. Some ads will be interest based, some location based, some device based, etc.

You need to focus on the performance reports in AdSense to work out whether AdSense is working for you.

How many visitors are you getting?

To get targeted traffic for your ad sense site, you need a good knowledge of keyword research.

You shouldn't target keywords that does not relate to what you have on page.
