Wordpress archived my site and removed it

I was getting some nice positioning on the first page with a free wordpress site, then all of a sudden, I checked it one day and it said it had been archived due to violating the terms of service. I had a few links on there to sell a product. Did some social bookmarking. One of my secondary pages linked to my front page of the blog also.... just giving some details of how it was set up- possible explanations?

Other than that I consistently added original content.

Anyone have any ideas or past experience with this type of thing?

    Now that is scary! I have a number of wordpress sites. Please keep us informed if you learn why it happened. Is there any kind of appeal process you can go through to get it back up or at least be able to move everything to another blog? Please PM me when you do another post on this subject.

      Hey donrock,

      I just read in another post that sometimes Wordpress.com will zap your site if it is on a free wordpress.com site and not on your own domain with wordpress installed if there is any/too much commercial content. It's a good lesson I learned early, and it shouldn't break me. I hope you'll be alright.

      I sent a message to support at Wordpress.com explaining I didn't understand asking for clarification, but that my site was definitely not spam. I asked if they would tell me what was causing a conflict so I could change it and reinstate my site... that was less than 24 hours ago.

    Of course - did you read the rules?

    If you want to create a Wordpress blog - create your own on your own domain.

    Don't waste time building something you have very limited control over.

      Yes sir I read the rules:

      "does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites"

      -that's pretty vague. Define "unwanted commercial content".

      There's plenty of free wordpress sites flying under the radar for commercial purposes, just haven't been scrutinized

    Yeah true - don't worry - most people have made the same mistake - me too.

    There are tons and tons of blogs that are breaking the rules.

    yes - you get some good traffic easliy too.

    But, it is not a long term thing - and as mentioned before - they can ban you whenever they want.

    If you are serious about IM then make sure you are in full control - otherwise you can lose everything you built up in a couple of seconds.

    This goes for Adsense as well - you can get banned after putting a massive amount of work in.

    Better to create your own website or blog on your own domain.

    If you still have your content from your site - just register your domain and upload your Wordpress file to there.

    You can download your file from Wordpress.com.

    Then go to Hostgator and get a domain name. Then launch your own Wordpress.org blog.

    This is what a lot of people do.
