Keywords depends on the website content that which kind of services or products you are providing through your website. If you are providing health related information then your keyword start from health like health tip, health benefits etc.

Your boss should really be giving you all the info you need. it isn't as easy as just 'do keyword research'. I've got a free guide on building niche sites that covers keyword research with an example if you're interested (see signature).

Alternatively there are tons of guides on warriorforum.. check the stickies.

    • If you already have a niche in mind, you can use Google AdWords Tools to find the right keywords. If you are searching for a good niche, check out the latest Google trends. Visit online stores and see which products rank highest in terms of sales.

The "best" niche in terms of profit, will be the niche which has the least competition and the most searches for a particular level of income per site (or page).

However, while number of searches is easy to determine (and Google are even fairly honest about it now, unlike a few years ago), from the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, competition analysis is not simple, and requires looking at the on-page and off-page SEO of other pages on the first page of search results.

Income per page is even more difficult to determine, except by testing. Whatever the monetization strategy, whether AdSense, Amazon, or ones own product, because so many factors influence the profits. One can certainly learn general guidelines such as looking at AdSense CPC's, but that's not the whole story, as a keyphrase with higher CPC might recieve a lot less clicks per visitor, for whatever reason.

So, for anything more accurate than very approximate general guidelines, split-testing is the only real answer. However, that's not difficult on the internet, and can certainly be done with some investment of time and/or money.
