    Rule 1: Test Ad Content
    Rule 2: Keyword Research
    Rule 3: Experiment with CPC
    Rule 4: Niche Keywords
Rule 5: Don't fake out your clickers!

I'm no pro at PPC but these are mosti mportant in my opinion, allow me to elaborate.

Rule 1: Make 2 ads that are identical except 1 line. Test sufficiently (50+ impressions, I usually do around 200 impressions to get a better guage, the more the better) Disable the setting that says "Only serve best performing ads"

See which of these ads gets more clicks. Rinse and repeat. This time use your best performing ad and change one line again and run this test again. Do this until you have optimized every line, by micro testing this will allow you to isolate best performing "combos."

Rule 2: Keyword Research. This is simple enough, see where your competition is, find keywords that are specific and don't use more than 10 (this is a personal preference, some will disagree) I like to keep this small to test.

Rule 3: CPC. I usually don't go over .20 CPC. This is because I will find very specific keywords that are being searched with decent volume and target those instead of paying $1 + per click to compete with the competition.

Rule 4: Niche Keywords. Again, use Google's Keyword tool try and find long string keywords that get volume. This allows you to use lower CPC and still have high returns on your ad (aim for the 2-4 position).

Rule 5: Don't Fake you Ads. You want every click to be justified. Don't just get traffic to the site, get targeted traffic to the site. I'll take 10 Potential customers over 500 window shopper any day. Those window shopper cost you money, the potential customers make you money!

Good luck, this is just my advice. Experiment constantly, even when you think you've maximized your clicks and minimized your CPC.

I agree with Webflip. Though I start with large volumes of related keywords and then rapidly prune out the dead wood.

I also start with a higher MAX CPC so that I can rapidly identify the best converting keywords.

Micro testing or split testing as I call it is very important.

    Good luck
