My blog is dancing around all over the place. It started on page 6, moved to 4, then to 2, now it's disappeared altogether. It hasn't been sandboxed, but I guess the big G is still trying to index it. Articles and pages from my site are ranking well though.

But my facebook page is on page 2 for my keywords. Really? My fb page? I spend days and weeks building a proper blog, and google ranks my facebook page???!!! Wth?

For your Blog if you have created Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus profiles they will appear on the first page of Google if you search for your Blog name.

What i believe when working on social media target things other than your main website name or such..! don't target your keyword as they will get better ranks than your blog. What you can do is make phrases for facebook pages. which usually get lots of fans and rank good try to target traffic rather than the keyword on social media..!

Although Google uses the Panda algorithm, Google still counts backlinks. So you need to add quality baclinks to your page(s) or website(s) for the top ranking at Google.

Social pages are ranked easily AT THE START mainly because of their popularity and how much trust Google places on them. However, they will decline over time because your domain will overtake them. Just give it time.

Seems to me you are either building to many links to your homepage only/possibly not using enough keyword variation, or a combination of the two.

If you don't change direction, you'll end up where you're going.

    • Beware of building too many backlinks too fast. Never use those cheap 'bulk' backlink services. Build natural links from social neighborhoods, and build your other links slowly, and with variety. Your site/blog/pages may dance around a bit at first, but if you do everything properly up front, they will settle down in a nice position soon enough.

It is much easier to rank a Facebook, YouTube or Twitter page than your actual domain initially. Ranking extensions of those big, popular domains has been made easier by Google because it is familiar to them.

Once your blog develops and gains good content and is well optimized, you will start to see it gain more credibility and it will probably rank higher than your page. It takes quite a lot of time, effort, patience and ethical means to get ahead Good luck.
