Monetary value of a keyword?

Hi all,

I've been using Market Samurai and Google Adwords to assess the value of keywords and so far it has worked pretty well.

However, I created a website on the basis of approx 400 daily searches and an average CPC of $6.

I am aware that these figures are based on the no. 1 spot in Google results and an average number of searches across 12 months, but what is the CPC based on? I say this because I am in the top 5 for this keyword, my website uses Adsense, yet I have not made one cent in the few months my website has been live. I realized in another post that my keyword is related to computer services so it's unlikely that anyone will click on my ads, so how is the average CPC defined in Google?

Do your website really get visitors?

My CPC average is not much.

    Hi himanuzo,

Yes, my website is getting small traffic of around 50 unique visitors a day. Other websites I have bring in less traffic, but around 2% CTR.

I've had around a few thousands visits to my new site, but no clicks. I now understand this to be because my target audience is less likely to click on ads, so I'm not sure how the average CPC is defined in Google. I want to avoid making the same mistake again...

A high CPC alone won't determine the profitability of a keyword. I had websites built around keywords with high CPC but hardly any clicks were made, as similar to your case, they were in the IT / computer niche where people tend to ignore ads. I also had a website with keywords that had a CPC of less than 20 cents, still the CTR was insane, because of the type of visitors. When you research keywords, you should factor in your target audience's level of awareness to ads and how they relate to them. You would get decent CTRs in niches related to stuff that Oprah would promote on her network.
